Paper armature?

I want to make a little peice by making a cone of paper and painting slip on it. Of course, it cracks while drying. I am trying drying it very slowly, but is there anything else I should try? I can't make it with a roll or cone of clay because of where it is. TIA

Try making it on the inside of the cone so that it will separate from the paper and shrink.

That would probably work except that I need to make it in a hard to get to place and both the top and bottom of the cone are attached. Might work for other applications though. Thanks.

Do you mean (I'm guessing) mix clay and paper pulp together?

Paper clay is a mixture of clay, paper (toilet paper is good) and sodium silicate. The cellulose fibres fill up with clay and when fired there is a good bond because of the fibre matrix. It doesnt shrink as much as a straight slip and can acually be cast.

If you google paper clay you will come up with some recipes.
