Re: Where can I get a CUSTOM made Chiminea?

Where are you to begin with? What are the dimensions (the person making it would need to know if their kiln would hold the piece - keep in mind that there is considerable shrinkage so a 4' piece would end up at about 3.5'? The piece looks easy enough to duplicate. Size would be the biggest issue to me. I would check with the nearest colleges and ask in there ceramics department or see if the have a student crafts center.

why bother with a custom chiminea anyway? there are tons of unique ones around that you might just as well buy. you don't have to just get what is seen at a typical home store or common nursery. for instance i saw several unique versions in sedona arizona usa last november. ~ they had a mosaic covering instead of just the traditional teracotta claybody showing.

i've been seeing metal versions too lately, although that's against the law for a pottery newsgroup...

I wasn't quite sure what was meant by a chiminea, so I googled - and stumbled across this (getting us back to pottery ;-)

that's the concept - and around here terracotta mexican pottery can be found in qty in home stores & nurseries.

wood burner stove concepts, with an open clay body so they don't crack easy.

a basin, a chimney, and an opening for the wood & to view the flames & receive heat.

i've made little ones, like for small candles. a large one would be tricky with the high weight & sagging potential in a firing.

i like that idea! i was going to incorporate a bread oven into my kiln but decided against it. this would be a great way to still get one...
