A Recapitulation

  1. In response to an OT post concerning Steve Irwin's untimely demise, I was critical of the sentiments being expressed pointing out the man made his fortune tormenting animals for the amusement of the 'ignorant'.

The response was a stream of abuse, at least I think it was abuse. From that I conclude many think tormenting animals is OK!.

  1. I raised the topic of the many, in fact a significant percentage of OT posts in this newsgroup. I remarked that this is a discourtesy to others. This was also greeted by howls of abuse and protestations that you, at least those that responded, do not abide by the general rules that most do for the sake of order in our society.

I claim nothing original in either subjects. What I find interesting was the response. There seems a number of very angry women (I won't debase the word 'ladies' by applying it to you) out there, mostly concentrated in the US, I think.

Now what new abuse can you think up to continue to demonstrate your ignorance that by now must be apparent to most.

this is a cyber quilting bee. we chat bout this and that and we mostly like it that way. a few of us read the link you put up for the 'rules of conduct' from Intel dated waaaaaay back in the year 1995. at which time they had only a vague notion of what the internet and usenet would become. it clearly doesnt work for this group. near the beginning there was a line about these rules being adaptable to suit a particular group. we have adapted those to suit us. please yourself but do please cease with all the verbal rhetoric which serves little purpose other than to alienate the rest of us. perhaps that is your entire reason for all this? good grief, you are becoming a right pita, ya know. you still arent signing your name to your posts either. you could be edward or using your partners name in the 'from' column. so sit down and tell us about your quilting endeavours. we really know so little about you or your quilting. you do quilt?? cheers from a chilly evening in the south pacific, jeanne

Oh dear - is this little troll still around. I am too tired to play insult games tonight. Someone else can give him a serve and pander to his little ego trip but I couldn't be bothered.

Thank heavens for message filtering!! LOL

Chilly nights here in OZ too but beautiful spring days all this week.

Edward, As an adult I learned long ago that you can't control what other people do or say. All you can do is control your response to them. May I suggest you start being proactive and controling your response to posts you don't like?

For example, rather than whine about the number of off topic posts, set a filter for OT:. That will get rid of most of the off topic posts as long as people remember to put OT: in the subject (btw I fixed your subject line since you forgot the OT:).

Another way you can be proactive in reducing the percentage of off topic posts is to begin contributing on topic posts rather than cry about how everyone else doesn't.

Rather than complain about how abusive people are being to you may I suggest you just stop reading once you see that it's a subject you aren't interested in. Or, if you aren't interested in quilts at all may I suggest you find another group to read that would be more to your liking. Perhaps alt.edwardwthompson.imthebosssoyoubetterfollowalltherules would suit your interests better.

Have a wonderful weekend Edward.

When it comes to displaying ignorance, it would appear that you are doing a great job of it. You have been asked, repeatedly, to discuss your quilting endeavors and show pics of your accomplishments, and yet you can't respond to that. You have no right to come into this group and start spouting off rules that you think we should follow. Who died and made you "God"??? If we all like the status quo, why do you think you can change anything? And who are you anyway to put yourself above anyone here? Go away!!! Go away!!! Go away!!! Guess you are just a masochist and want to be abused and the only way to get your jollies is to provoke someone so they can treat you badly. What a dork!!! Also, note, I'm signing my post, why don't you?????

BTW, another misconception that you have is that Steve Irwin tortured animals. Oh, so did he poke them with knives or swords and watch them writhe in pain? Of what I have seen, he wrestled crocodiles which I dare say could scarcely harm them because of their tough hide. And baiting animals with his baby son. Get a grip on it, Edward. Granted he had no business holding his baby while feeding a croc, but he certainly wasn't using the baby for bait. I've seen the pictures many times. As for making money with what he was doing, gee, gosh, shucks and all sorts of other words indicating my amazement!!! Don't a lot of other people handle animals for a living and make money doing so??? Isn't it OK to work for wages and benefit from a day's labor, no matter what kind of work you do, provided it is legal?? Gee, Edward, what type of employment are you in? Oh, that's right, you spend all of your time harassing women and belittling them to make yourself feel like a big, important and extremely knowledgeable person. What a dolt!!!! Also, some of the school kids around here would say, "Sheesh, what a retard!" or "What a sicko!" Marlys in Indiana

You are of course quite correct, that's the easy way. However, it does seem a shame that people should be allowed to act in what is really quite an ignorant way without anyone speaking out. Unfortunately that appears the way of the world, the 'few good men' (and women too of course) are completely over shadowed by the vocal and ignorant masses.

The politically correct thing is 'heads down' and say nothing. Just look around and see what a mess that seems to be landing us all in. It is so easy to condemn and belittle those that protest. I despise the bullies, both men and women. It appears there is an unusually large concentrations of wannabe bullies in this group.

Methinks you protest too much. Having a few guilty pangs are you? Incidentally, perhaps you should consult your dictionary to look up the definition of torture and look up 'ignorance' while you are at it, you may be surprised how well that adjective fits.
