Advice please OFF TOPIC

Pay attention when you buy the cast iron Dutch oven. Some have lids with little pointy things hanging down inside (stalagt-somethings ?) so that moisture is evenly distributed when you are braising, baking, etc. Another bit from Alton Brown, of course. A fun place for looking is

No, Polly, you'd *never* be an enabler. And I have a bridge I'd like to sell, too. ;-P

I have Alton's Guide to the Gear for if I get more serious about the Dutch oven. :)

Howdy!

Dearest Polly, from my 5th grade teachers, Mrs. Patsy Pilant: stalactite has a C as in "ceiling" so it's the pointy thing over your head; stalagmite has a G as in "ground" so it's the pointy thing near your feet. Wasn't she clever? She assumed we would understand the pointy things she meant. (This is the same teacher who used me, all 65 lbs and 4'6" of me, to demonstrate "lie" and "lay" [lie: to recline on her desk; lay: to place me on her desk]. )

Ragmop/Sandy--taking my chances w/ non-stick pots&pans, I'm a good cook & I don't *do* cast iron, hated to clean Mom's cast iron, didn't like the taste, don't fry anything; non-stick cleanup leaves more time for quilting

My teacher of about the same time used stalactites had to hold on TIGHT so they didn't drop off the ceiling. Stalagmites had to push with all their MIGHT to grow up from the floor. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Oh! I hadn't heard that one before - I'd only heard 'ceiling' and 'ground', as Sandy said. I rather like the alternative.

That's what I heard, too: Stalactites stick tight; stalagmites grow mighty.

Now Kathy, here's a great sales opportunity for you. Since Katrina, there still is no bridge between Ocean Springs, Mississippi over to the Biloxi - Gulfport area. Since mail to us is routed through Gulfport, I have no idea how it gets here but by the delay, expect it goes around through the free nation of Ballalawonga. Could I set up an appointment for you with the Ocean Springs City Council? Polly

Absolutely! I'm sure I can find an extra bridge or two around here. Just between I and Q streets there are three bridges over the Sacramento River. I'm sure no one would miss one of those. :)
