An early Xmas gift from Pfaff

A couple of months ago, I posted that my pfaff 2144 had 'turned orange' on half of the control screen. My pfaff man asked me if I wanted to know the repair costs before any work was done and since the machine would be no use to me in its present condition, I told him that the work would have to be completed regardless of cost so "No", I didn't want to know the details in advance.

The machine was sent back to pfaff, Canada for repairs since it wasn't a mechanical problem. Several weeks later, Saro phoned to tell me that the machine was ready to pick up and pfaff would only charge me for labour and courier transit since the warranty period was borderline (2months past for parts replacement).

I brought the machine home and started testing the ins and outs of sewing - the new circuit board was defective and the escape pad was controlling more than it should - the machine seemed to have a mind of its own sometimes and was not operating as it should. It didn't turn orange though! Back to the shop and again, the machine returned to pfaff, Canada with the promise from my dealer: if it was going to be a long delay, he would loan me the shop 2144 so that I could do my Xmas sewing/quilting. Another week passed and I was promised that my machine had left pfaff, Canada and would be home the next day. This time, I checked it out in the store before leaving with it and it seemed to work perfectly.

It should, pfaff has replaced the entire computer system at no charge and given it a complete factory tune-up. The only thing left for me to do is play, play, play and upload my embroideries and other new stitches that I had stored in the old memory.

Since Thursday, I have completed 14 baby bibs, a couple of dozen tree ornaments, the "I love my Dog" wallhanging, 2 placemats, enough play blocks (curved piecing) to make a quilt top one day --- best of all, I have the PERFECT straight stitch with PERFECT tension and PERFECT hummmmmmmmmmm. Still lots of gift completions to do and others to start but my machine is home again.

My point to this story: let your repair person know that you expect your machine to be "sewer tested" NOT factory default tested after repair. This was the case the first time which created the delay because in the default mode, my machine didn't require the use of the escape pad or other stitch adjustments.
