another week of blocks to report

Made lots of progress on the anniversary quilt this week but neglected other items on the "to-do list" of everyday life. Company is coming tomorrow (sister, nephew and wife, first son's girl friend and second son) so must concentrate on setting house in order and the meal. This isn't a special occasion but my nephew isn't able to visit his grandma often so when he is coming everyone else comes too.

For those who have missed my other posts the numbers after the block names refer to several books which are collections of blocks. I looked through the books and chose blocks which have names that correspond to our lives over the past 40 years. I plan to give my husband the stack of blocks with a note attached to each block explaining why I chose that block. I didn't want the pressure of finishing the quilt by our August wedding anniversary. Realistically I knew the only way the quilt would be completed was if I locked myself in the studio. I wanted this to be a fun project not a pressure project. Weekly progress is reported here so you can keep me sewing. Blocks completed this week: Sheep May Safely Graze--the one that took so long because sheep facing the wrong way. Cross Roads to Jericho #2385 Barbara Brackman Peace and Plenty # 1201Barbara Brackman Cross (my variations but inspired by #949.3 Barbara Brackman) Album #2414 Barbara Brackman Boys Nonsense #2811Barbara Brackman Thrifty #84 Maggie Malone's book "5,500 Quilt Block Designs" Delectable Mountains #1865 Maggie Malone Rocky Mountain Puzzle page 61 Yvonne Khin's book "The Collector's Dictionary of Quilt Names and Patterns"

That is 25 of 40 blocks completed. I might make it yet. One month to go.

Susan, you're making great progress! You only have 15 blocks to go, so a couple of weeks should see you finished, if all goes well and the house guests don't stay long. ;)

Susan...what is the quilt shop you frequent? I'll be over in the western suburbs next weekend. I'm attending a wedding on Friday night in Naperville and I can dally all day Saturday before I head back home. I thought maybe I'd program some quilt shops into my new navigation system on my car. I need to practice using it. And what better way?????

Good work, Susan! Are you saving print outs of your RCTQ posts? Those might be a fun addition to the package of blocks. PAT

Oh, yes, going to send this little project back where it started. A rather large 8-pt star in red, white&blue, surrounded by a couple of flag-waving borders; Finished to about 34" square. Cute idea, and I will post a pic of it somewhere, but it needs to go "home" to Illinois. ;-)

Meanwhile, speaking of Illinois, Susan, are you Finished, yet?

Contact me privately and maybe we can meet at one of the shops. The closest to my house and where I used to teach is The Quilt Merchant

just a few minutes north of Naperville. The store is only reproduction fabrics so if you want a little variety check Pieceful Heart Fabrics (the address is Lisle but it is only one block east of the Naperville city line). The Naperville shop is Stitches n Stuffing. I haven't been there since they down sized this spring. There is also a good shop in Batavia, Prairie Stitches (you will have to double check that name but it is Prairie something. The shop was formerly QBU). They are sponsoring a small quilt show Friday thru Sunday. The Windmill City shop is closed. We are so fortunate to have so many good shops in our area. There are two others 45 minutes south of Naperville and even more an hour north.
