Any Outlook Express experts out there?

I read my RCTQ through Outlook Express (6). The are set to view by group -- so follow-up posts stay with the initial post which are listed by date/time. (although it doesn't seem to make a difference to my problem if I change it to chronological listing of posts.)

The problem is that not all posts are appearing. If I do a FIND and use a specific poster's name or a specific title -- it appears in the FIND RESULTS window -- which leads me to believe it is there... but it is NOT where it should be in the date/time listing.

So if the questionable "posts" are found when using FIND -- why aren't they showing in the master list?

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Very strange, Kate. Just curious, I looked around to see what could be causing such a goofy happening. Go to 'view', then 'current view'. Mine has the top one - show all - and the bottom one - group messages - both marked but nothing else. That works for me. Maybe you have more than that checked and it is creating your weird receiving. Not an expert, not even competent, Polly

I must admit that I use OE and have never had all the post and mine is set the same as yours. I just assumed that was it and I can catch up with the replies. not a lot of help I know.

If the original post in a thread is deleted or falls off the server the posts that follow sometimes get scattered if the subject has been changed. Even posts with and without OT can get separated into different threads.

And I should also add that if someone changes the subject but keeps the original also it will stay in the original thread as long as the original post is still there.

For example....... "knitting with plastic WAS Re: who'da'thunk" will stay in the "who'da'thunk" thread until the original post in that thread goes away.

Clear as mud? lol

Well that explains something that's been puzzling me for years, Jeri! Not that I understand it! but I see what you mean, and see why my subject changes have *never* changed. . In message , Jeri writes

Outlook Express is my favorite mail application! Even though I accidently hit reply instead of 'reply group'. When reading newsgroups, OE downloads a specific number of 'headers'. You can change how many headers are downloaded, as well as download additional headers when you need to.

On the main menu bar, under Tools==>Options Bring up the window, select the tab for read. There should be a box for News, allowing you to select how many 'headers' are downloaded at one time. With RCTQ, I certainly needed to upgrade the number a bit (I use 300).

When you are looking at the posts, you can also use the option under tools for 'Get next xxx headers', where xxx is the number you set in the options.

Just got home late last night to 1584 posts....that's 12 days worth. I use OE also. I am FINALLY getting MORE than 127 posts. Now I'm going to have to remember this 'new postings number' of 132. I'm reading 'subject line' of posts only--right now.

Having an endoscopy tomorrow so I'll be off line again until Sat.
