aurifil thread for hand quilting?

Hello Everyone

I've heard/read so much about aurifil on this board that I am wanting to try it.

I usually do all my piecing and quilting by machine, and if I have read the postings right, this thread would be great for that.

But what about hand quilting? There is this nagging little voice in the back of my head that is fast becoming a real pest, urging me to hand quilt the flying geese quilt in progress. Would aurifil work for hand quilting?

And what about the thimbleberries threads? Since the flying geese is made with the fabrics from the light & bright and warm & cozy fabrics, I was thinking about buying these threads to use in (hand)quilting this quilt.

I really hate that little voice!

I've never used it for hand quilting, but I don't think it would be the best choice. For hand quilting, I prefer a thread made specifically for hand quilting; it has a glaze on it so that it doesn't fray as easily. My favorite is the Gutterman hand quilting thread. However, don't try to use a hand quilting thread in the machine. The glaze can gum things up in your machine.

Such a good idea, Jeanne, and it works. At the beginning, I SID'd a log cabin. It said it needed more so I handquilted down the middle of each log, no pinning or basting needed. The quilt appears to be handquilted but it is not. Well, not exactly. Polly

I agree with Julia, Claudia. I *love* Aurifil, but I don't know that I'd use it for hand quilting. My favorite hand quilting thread is also Gutermann; that glaze on it makes hand quilting a joy. :)

They have ones they say are perfect for sashiko and hand quilting. It's not the regular piecing one. The third and fourth one down on this website.
