Blue Willow .....

Not that I'm giving you guys power over my stash, but I would be interested in hearing your ideas. At the local quilt show I bought four fat quarters, all with classic Blue Willow designs. Two have the traditional white background, two have the light yellow background. I also bought a yard of the most incredible deep blue (same shade as the fq's) cotton jacquard. So this is where my energies will turn within a week or two.

What would you do with Blue Willow themed fabric?

Sunny Just curious.

Dresden Plate blocks come to mind. I'm thinking a deeper yellow background and the deeper blue for the centers and sachings.

But that may be too obvious for you. ;-)

Denny, I bought the fabric from a vendor who buys close-out and discontinued fabric lots. This is Lakehouse Designs and she said it was several years old. I looked online and did find this link:

which Imight have to buy if I didn't already have my fqs. I don't think Iwould want four yards of Blue Willow. Leslie, that was the first thing I thought of. And it may go that way yet. But I'm also sitting here trying to draw teapots and tea cups and saucers. I may have to make something that looks like Meemaw's china shelf. I learned to drink black coffee off one of her Blue Willow saucers. She would pour a bit from the cup into the saucer and add a bit of water, then blow it to cool and I could sip the coffee out of the saucer once it was cool enough. I hated the taste at first, but I would have eaten worms if I had to in order to sit in Meemaw's lap and drink out of her Blue Willow.

I've seen a quilt like that! It looked much like the library/bookshelf quilts that were so poplar except it was a china cabinet. Each teapot had a different curve to it- some taller and more slender, some short and squatty, some with curves down low and some curved higher, etc. It was just darling! I have no idea where to find it, tho. Sorry.

And I'd be tempted to add some similar fabrics with green or yellow or peach or deeper pinks in the prints on the teapots- just for fun.

google 'quilt teapot' and you'll find heaps of patterns. some free, some not. then check the images on google too. if only for all the ideas of different teapot shapes. you could do the same for teacups. interesting that most of the teapots have the handle on the right side. maybe lefties dont drink much tea. who knows. ...and afternoon tea has all the plates of savouries and cakes to eat with your tea, of course. much variety on that meal alone with a wee bit of thot. j.

Eleanor Burns has a cute pieced teacup in her "Christmas at Bears Paw Ranch" book. I made it in blue and yellow for a tea drinking friend.

I have a PP teapot if you'd like a copy. I'd have to scan and email you but this is something that I can do if you'd like a copy. Going to make one myself one of these days!

Maureen, they won't let me see your quilt without a membership. And the free trial isn't really free. Can I see it anywhere else?

Definately do a table runner or WUH in a Dresden fan or plate. That would be gorgeous! deep blue backgrounds and centers. i think it would be a hit! amy in CNY

You've had some great suggestions, Sunny, but no one has yet suggested a series of feathered stars! Your BW fabrics could be the centers and main portions of the star points, with either blue or yellow in the triangles making the feathers. Yum!

They are not great pics but you can see what I did at this link:

Heidi I love your cups! But the chicks are what really stole my heart. That is the cutest table topper I've ever seen. I love chickens -- so far have restricted my stitching chickens (say that three times....) to a wall hanging for my MIL. She really liked it, her entire kitchen was decorated with chickens at the time. Anyway, the cups are darling and I think you did a great job with them.

Thank you. The chicks were a wedding present for my SIL who's kitchen is also done in chickens and roosters. I didn't think I liked applique, and that clinched it, plus I looked all over Massachusetts for chick fabric and had to settle for the chicken print in the center. Once I had everything cut out, I found chick fabric everywhere. Murphy's law. But she loved it.
