Busy week -- *on* topic

I've just had a rather busy week! Wednesday evening our guild president, the other VP and I entertained Sharyn Craig (my all-time favorite teacher! ) at dinner. What fun that was! I just adore her, and it was nice that she remembered me from the other 4-5 classes I've had from her. LOL!

Thursday I spent the entire day at a circle (= bee) meeting, followed by a guild meeting that evening, with Sharyn as the guest speaker. She's wonderful to listen to -- as always.

Yesterday I was in class all day, learning her technique for the Northwind block and its several variations. I wish I could also have taken her Royal Cross class today, but two of my DGSs will be spending the afternoon/night with us, so it was out of the question. Besides, I'm pooped! But it's a good pooped, and now I have some ideas for using the Northwind block in a quilt .... Still, I may pop over to the class later and pick up her templates for the Royal Cross -- it's rather gorgeous!

How fun!

I adore Sharon Craig too.

This week Lyn Mann stayed with us. She spoke at our guild on Wednesday (and I can't tell you how many people have mentioned her carmel and red quilt) and taught a workshop Thursday on making scrappy quilts with challenging fabrics. After class we hit the local quilt shops. She went home Friday.

Today our guild put on a quilting day at the local senior center. I did a hand quilting demo. It was fun but not too busy.

I'm pooped too and it looks like a tornado hit my sewing room to boot.

Isn't she great? Unfortunately, she's retiring next year, so she won't be back to our area. :(

It's a busy time when an out-of-towner comes to a guild, isn't it?

You've just described my sewing room, too, Marcella! LOL!

That pretty much describes it, Irene!

And that green is *most* becoming, Estelle. ;) I was so lucky to have had this experience. :)

Oh bummer. No teaching at all or can we go to her for a class?

As far as I know, it will be no teaching at all. She wants time to enjoy her grandchildren.

I just love her classes, Pat, and I'll miss them. As for my project, it may take a while, since I still have to decide which of the eight variations I want to make (or all?) and how to set them. Oh, and the colors, too! LOL!

Sandy, I just viewed some of the photo's on Carol Doak's group site and wow! I love your mini! That is too cute! I can't say I've done much lately with Carol's group, but do read and occasionaly try to catch up on the photos. I'm busy learning to use my new machine. So far, I've used a serge stitch to mend my dad's arm rest covers, took apart a pair of pj pants and sewed them back up, satin stitched around a pair of turtle eyes and tested out the walking foot on a table runner I'm making using Carol's snowflake design and decided it wasn't the best foot for what I wanted to do. Decided to go with stitch in the ditch, but don't have the actual foot...I'm gonna have to wing it! My 8 year old son and I designed a frog, turtle, snake quilt in EQ. So far, I've sewn two of the twenty four blocks needed...think I'll be done for Christmas? lol NOT! lol Unfortunately I don't know who Sharyn Craig is, but I'm going to google her name and see what I can come up with. I do suck at remembering names! Launie, in Oregon

Sounds like a great day!! I love those workshops and the Northwind block looks like it has a lot of design possibilities.

I wonder how it would look in batiks....................hmmmmmm.

Sharon Craig is the author of 2 of my favourite quilting books -'Setting Solutions' which is suggested solutions for blocks you have made or been given that possibly dont go together either colour or size wise and you don't know what to do with them, and 'Great Sets' which is settings more for quilts that have been planned!

Mine are well thumbed!

Lots of lovely pictures to inspire you in both.

Marsha, I haven't often (ever?) seen a quilt in batiks in *any* pattern that wasn't gorgeous!

Thanks, Launie. :) I have a photo of it finished (= quilted, bound) on my site at .

What kind did you get? I must have missed hearing about it!

Just for practice?

If you have a Bernina, you really *need* the #10 foot ....

She does very traditional quilts, but she always has wonderfully easy ways to sew them by machine. She also excels at figuring out how to take traditional blocks and set them imaginatively! :)

Good luck with your new machine!

I agree! And I should be having more of it in a couple of hours. That's when Mika from our group and a friend of hers will be arriving for a visit! :D

Sally, I have both of those books, too. Wonderful, aren't they? I wish I had half as much imagination as Sharyn Craig when it comes to setting blocks! :)
