Taria, one of our bathrooms has a tiny window. I would LOVE to do that with my button bin. No instructions or hints given that I can see. I guess I could just climb in and see what works as to buttons with/without shanks. What thread (maybe fishing nylon) . . . Were there instructions given? Polly

The 60's - 70's flashback.... beaded curtains! I wanted one so badly for my room -- but my parents absolutely refused! Now I can do it -- but don't quite have enough buttons!!

I don't see any instructions. I bet the experts on beading here can help us. Please. Taria

I might can help with that a little bit. There was a time when embellished denim jackets were cool. I needed a really random supply. I asked the manager of the local Hancocks if I could have the loose buttons and incomplete cards at a bargain price. He let me have all the fallen ones and damaged cards at a great price. You can buy buttons by the zillion pound at Home-Sew but the variety isn't as much fun. Maybe ebay? Polly

Thanks - have forwarded this on to DSisIL, the button collector. She is bound to have a few million that are surplus to her requirements (and that she can't sell at her next visit to a US button convention.

She also has a re-designed kitchen with a big door onto the garden - would stop the flies coming in. (she doesn't have any four-legged friends).

I love that idea! Now I have just gone from thinking I have sooo many buttons to wondering if I have enough, in one quick peek at your link. LOL

Sorry but my sister-in-law has already asked for any buttons I can spare. She strings them on thin copper wire and adds them to plants, lamps, etc. She loves 30's quilts and painted furniture. The buttons add an extra touch.

We need something like that for guys made out of screws. Most of us have a can/jar/55 gallon drum full of odd screws collected over a lifetime of odd jobs/repairs/salvage... DW used to think it was silly/ stupid until something needed repairing, and sure enough - the right screw was in the jar without having to make a run 10 miles to the nearest hardware/home improvement store (that might not have had the right size anyway...)

I couldn't tell you why, but my mom had two button boxes/bins. One had all the whites, off-whites, and clear/white rhinestones, and the other had all the colored (rest of the) buttons. DW inherited them, and while she doesn't know why either, still keeps them "segregated". ???

Thin copper wire? Hmmm. There's an idea. Might be a heap more cooperative than that mind-of-its-own nylon fishing thread. Polly

When you are in need of a button, you only need to sort through HALF of the buttons!

Men tend to lose more buttons- they wear more shirts with buttons, so it makes sense. Most buttons on men's shirts are white. Therefore finding a white button is easier with the buttons sorted this way. (Note: This is my opinion and I'm a blonde. YMMV)

You think only guys save screws? I try not to accumulate more than a little plastic box-full, but you're right, it is satisfying to have the right bit of screw on hand NOW.
