checking in - some OT

Hey all! Just thought it was time I let you know I was still alive and still lurking. DH was out of town a few weeks ago and I almost pieced a queen size top. I still need to piece a corner square for the last border, and then sew that last border strip on. Not sure when I will get back to it. I need DH to go away again. As some of you know Back Forty Quilting had a close out business sale a month or so ago. I ordered a whole bunch and it came today. I'm glad I ordered as many pieces as I did because I only got about 2/3 of the order. The rest was already sold out. I did get the quilt batt to go with the top that is almost done. I've ordered from this online store several times, I'm sorry to see them go. Anyway, what I did get is in the process of being washed so it can be added to my stash. I'm really hoping that by next spring we will be in our new house and I will have a sewing room and be in quilting heaven! We have just finished (I hope) the floor plans for our new house. Now I have to assemble estimates on the project for the bank, and get the house we currently live in ready for sale. We spent a couple of hours out at our new acreage this afternoon, doing some measuring, dragging some brush to the fire pile, and just enjoying a beautiful spring day. Still lots of snow on the ground, but it is definitely spring! :) Hopefully, the weather will be good Saturday and we will go out early to light the burn pile. Some stumps to still get rid of, and cleared brush to keep the stumps burning. We'd like to get it done while there is still snow on the ground to prevent the fire spreading to the trees we want to keep. Although many people burn stump piles by lighting them and only checking on them a few times, we are over cautious and will not leave the site unattended while there is still hot coals., so we have been waiting till we both have a day off together to do this. I have visited two of the youngest grandchildren in the last couple of weeks along with the 4 1/2 year old sister of one. (Two different weekends - two different cities) It was great getting some snuggle time with 5 month olds! Still cuddly, but not yet making strange!. We also had a daughter come to visit with her three children ages 10, 4 1/2, and 9 months. The 9 month old didn't cuddle much but she did let me pack her around. It was a busy 3 weeks! Hopefully, I will get to see the youngest grandchild in the next few days. He only lives an hour away and has 2 older sisters and an older brother, so that will be 4 more grandkids at the same time! He is now 4 months old. The next grandchild is due at the end of this month! And no, I don't have a quilt made! I've come to the conclusion that until we get moved I can't count on being able to produce any sewing related item for a specific occasion. I think about you all every day, and you have no idea how often just being able to read the news group has helped me stay sane in my crazy world! Hugs, and prayers to you all. I'm off to get orderes packed for the mail in the morning, then off to bed.

This may need explaining for some Marigold. It is only the second time that I have heard it used and both times by a Canadian.

Do Americans use this term as well ?

"making strange" the stage where a baby realizes that someone is "new" or "different from the normal caregivers" and fusses or cries when the "stranger" tries to pick him/her up.

So far I've been pretty lucky, seeing as I only see some of our babies once a year. I've only had 2 of them that put up a real fuss when grama tried to hold them. Even the 9 month old Sara that was here recently didn't offer more than a token complaint when I took her from Mom. Made her mom very happy as they had been away from home for 3 1/2 days already when they got to our place and I was the first person Sara had allowed to hold her other than her mom. DD and kids came back again at the end of their 2 week trip and Sara was again quite happy to be packed around by both grama & grampa.

That was a much better explaination than I could have thought of Marigold.

The first time I ever heard the expression was from my late Mother-in-law. It seemed to be a common term in northern Iowa....or her German heritage.
