Absolutely nothing! With two new daughter-in-laws I was hoping to have a reason to make a few holiday things for their homes but talking with them I have decided not to push it. One daughter-in-law says she thinks holiday decorating is a silly waste of time. The other plans to make her own. I will just wait a few years and see if the climate changes. I did help a friend make an "I Spy" quilt for her four year old earlier this year which he will receive for Christmas. This email reminds me that I still need to bind it.

A bit of background for this answer: My mother collected Santas. She had hundreds at one time and it became a tradition for me to find something "Santa" for her. I started collecting Santa quilt patterns to make for her, and never got around to it before she died. So I am using the various patterns to make wall hangings for my siblings and adult nieces and nephews. That means 9 of them. Mostly hand appliqued. Most of the applique is finished (working on the last of them now), just need to add borders, layer, quilt and bind. Some of them need to be mailed. sigh Good thing that my family is well used to celebrating the holiday at any time of the year. But still trying to get them done asap. Also doing some small things for the holiday party at guild. As well as the ever present class samples.

At least I stay out of most trouble.

I am making a bunch of tree ornaments from Carol Doak's latest pattern (on her yahoo group).

And have asked for a quilty wall calendar for my lair. We'll see what appears.

I was moving briskly along on an advent panel by Makower for the baby... when the machine made a terrible "thunk" whilst free-motion quilting last night. I was just getting the hang of stippling as well! It is not happy, not happy at all and will have to be repaired, since the timing is well off. I've dusted off my (new to me) Featherweight and will have to put an index card over the feed dogs.... can't seem to get the stitch length below "6". Does this stop anyone freemotion quilting with them?

Uh-oh, His Nibs is awake, must dash...

I free motion quilted with my feeddogs up for years before Pat on her green and Polly ganged up on me and 'made' me drop them. Pat tried feeddogs up (accidentally, if I remember correctly?) and she said there were some advantages- like the fabric doesn't tend to move as easily and there's a bit of a feeling of security in that it helps you to not make a jarring BIG stitch or ten. Try it. Can't hurt as long as you use the FM hopping foot.

I'm not familiar with the Featherweights - except I think they're beautiful. Does the Featherweight have an adjustment that will let you relax how firmly the foot presses down on the fabric? Generally, that adjustment is just a screw located on TOP of the SM just above the needle. That might make it easier to move about. Polly

Marsha McClosky's Feathered Star Ruler and a Clover Needle Threader. But I'll take anything quilty that Santa gives me without complaining.

Oh, I guess you meant what I'm making, not what I want.

Just finished a lap quilt for David's sister. I'm also knitting a pair of socks for David. But he might be getting in IOU for those.

I wish I known about that one. I'm going to have to look for it! It sounds perfect.

Howdy!

Better the machine goes "thunk" than the baby.

Good luck!

Merry Christmas!
