Confused Shipping?

I noticed a small notation on the "Sale Items" page which said that additional charges would probably apply to international orders....naturally, I wanted to know what it was all about! If an order contains sale priced items, the full price applies to the package value for postal rates......then I looked at the Fedex rates which are also posted and then I wondered why anyone would want to use the USPS (1-6days) instead of the Fedex (1-3days) which is cheaper.........

I'll just click on the bunny instead! jennellh

Seems they want to make it look as though we have paid full price when it comes to Customs. : ( I solve that sort of problem by not buying. They never let overseas people enter the Bunny comps either, so no win situation!

Howdy!

I'd use USPS over FedEx; USPS is more reliable, in my neighborhood. (Most places don't offer a choice.) I know that Rick our postman will deliver the pkg to the house (as will Loren from UPS), while the goofy guy from F-E - well, he might aim for the front porch as he trundles by; sometimes he can't remember the right street. (see? I don't even know F-E's name, which sez plenty about service)

As a small business we order a lot of stuff from the states. I also order fabric, and quilting related stuff. I've found 2 good reasons for choosing USPS.

1- it gets to us! UPS, FEDEX, DHL, Purolator all seem to have problems finding us 1 hour out of a major center (Calgary, AB). We live in a town, not a farm/acreage with a rural address . We've had parcels go missing for weeks. DHL actually has a policy of not coming out our direction except on Thursdays. So if your parcel gets to them on a Thursday, oops, too late, you wait till next week. The next week if it is the only parcel for our town it will wait again till the next Thurs. UPS has told us that they tried to deliver on two different days and we were not home. They mailed us a postcard telling us that we had to call them to arrange delivery. The day I got the card I called and they had already returned my parcel to the US. There are many such stories that I could relate.

2- brokerage fees. Not duty or taxes, but the fee they charge to do the paper work to bring the parcel across the border. Canada Post charges a flat $5.00 fee and they collect the taxes owing. The couriers all charge their own fee, for which they do not share their formula to figure out before hand. We've had parcels show up at the door with charges owing that were double the price of the item sent. The other good thing about USPS is that sometimes they don't check it at the border in which case you don't even pay the $5 or the taxes.

I would have to want something really bad to agree to having it shipped from the states with a courier. We now use either a trucking company if it's larger or USPS

Marilyn in Alberta, Canada where the weather has been incredible. I'm wondering if this beautiful fall is going to mean we suffer with extreme cold over the winter. Even if we do not having winter start in Nov means that winter will be 1 month shorter this year! Yay!

From what I have seen here the guy that show up at your door and the particular unit he is out of make a big difference. UPS at the last house was pretty much unusable. When the nitwit tossed a flat screen monitor over the 5' gate I was pretty much done with them. The supervisor there was just as worthless. We have had pretty good luck with fed ex and the post office both places. Here my ups guy Randy is great. Not any problems. DHL ok here too. Our regular mail gal has been having back problems and been in and out for some months but the fill ins have done a great job. I really appreciate just how great a job the are all doing lately. (hope I am not jinxing myself here) I did save a lot of $$$ when I was boycotting UPS though. TAria

I know that I shouldn't complain, cause my DH DOES have a job, if you can call it that. BUT I HATE FED-EX. He is a night time driver and is lucky to get 4 days a week and dispatch has their favorites. DH had a package sent by Verizon, they use FED-EX idiot driver said he couldn't find the street. There is maybe 5 streets each direction AND HE COULDN'T FIND THE STREET? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE.
