Crazy quilt question

Hello again, I posted a message Friday and didn't see any replies so here I am again. I am making an all wool crazy quilt and have 28 12" squares done. I started with the hand stitching and realize this is going to take me the rest of my life to finish. My question is: Are the new sewing machines capable of doing a blanket stitch or similar stitch around each of the patches and look like it was hand stitched. I realize that a crazy quilt is a labor of love but I would like to move on to other quilts in my lifetime. I have a singer that I bought in the early 70's and have been thinking of upgrading to a Pfaff so I have more options. Any suggestions as to what model would fit the bill for me? I do some very basic quilting, mending, garment sewing and would like to get into some simple embroidery. Thanks for your help. Linda in Wisconsin

I have the Pfaff Quilt Expression 2046 and like the way the blanket stitch is done. Just finished the BIL's Tie pillows and used the various fancy stitches on them. Some worked very well and a couple of them I took out as they didn't 'show' the way I had anticipated. Overall, I'm pleased with the machine and what it is capable of. Have even made drapes on it besides the 'regular' sewing and quilting including MQ'ing a baby quilt or 2. HTH

You're very welcome, Linda. If you ask any quilter what sewing machine he/she prefers, you are likely to get a variety of replies. There are many good brands out there, including Pfaff, Bernina, Husqvarna, Janome, Brother, and on and on. It's rather like buying a car -- no one car will "do" for everyone. It's all a matter of personal preference. Best of luck in your search, and let us know how it goes. :)

My Pfaff does a perfect little blanket stitch -the only clue that it is not handwork is the perfection :-) Roberta in D

I love the blanket stitch on my Viking. I never use satin stitching any more for applique - always use the blanket stitch. Faster and I like the way it looks!

Hi Linda,

I purposefully got my Viking (used) because of all the nifty stitches it made, because I wanted to be able to do crazy quilting stuff. I've been playing with it and am really pleased but I think it could look more hand done, so next I'm going to experiments with different threads.

But...I won't give up any of my old machines, including the Singers!...so if you don't want yours no more....LOL :)
