Dear Jane software or book?

Does anyone have both the software and the book? I am interested in trying some of the DJ blocks and I was hoping I could save some money and buy either the software OR the book, but not both. Does anyone have any opinions about whether one or the other is better, or even just sufficient? I'd welcome opinions from those of you who have just one or the other as well. Or hearsay or gossip for that matter! :)

There's also a new? book called Dear Hannah. Sounds like that is along the same lines, but I'm wondering what the differences are between that book and DJ.

Just full of questions on a Monday morning, Elena in Tx

I have both. I have not used the software, other than to load it and play around with it. I love the book. I'm hand stitching my DJ, using batik fabrics!

Hullo Elena I have the book and am doing a Dear Jane (slightly smaller as I haven't anywhere large enough to hang a full one - 100 blocks and no triangles). I have to say in all honesty that, if I hadn't had some teaching and several years' experience, the book would not have been enough to show me how to actually make the blocks. before you invest in either, I suggest you go along to the Dear Jane website and see the site; see what hints on making there are there, and see if anyone has made comments about book or CD. I have been to the site for ages, so it's probably a lot more complete than when I last looked. I just wanted to see what sort of help they gave with the blocks. I think many people devise their own methods anyway. For me, not being a techie, the book was the obvious choice (though of course the CD was not out two years ago). I shall be interested to hear what others say. I think someone said that Dear Hannah was on the same principle; but there is a significant difference - I'm blowed if I can remember what it is though!! Sorry >g< . In article , Elena writes

Hi Elena

I have the book and the cd. I just got into the DJ quilting and saw the book before I saw the Cd. Bought the CD before the book and was going to just get the CD. Glad I got the book also. The book shows actual pictures of the blocks, which in my opinion, is invaluable! I have the cd because 1. I don't want to spend the time drafting the blocks and 2. I can arrange the blocks and color them for an easy reference to what I have done and what I hadn't.

The CD allows you to print out a picture of the block for reference along with rotary cutting instructions (that are generous measurements) foundation piecing block, templates, line drawings and several other options.

Was it worth the $49 dollars, IMHO yes! Was the book and the templates worth the $40 dollars, Yes.

The book has letters to Jane that described the process that was done to create the book and drawings. Well worth it.

I only purchased the software. I ususally just figure out patterns and cut but wanted templates for some of Jane's more difficult blocks.
