Directory Alert!

Just wanted to take a few minutes and wish everyone happy holidays and a safe, prosperous and healthy New Year. I have ended my travels for this year but am already booked through March for next year. Although, I will have a change in job responsibilities next year which will decrease my travels - YAY!!!! Less travel = more quilting!

I will yammer on about that later but I wanted to alert everyone to the pending new version of the RCTQ Directory. Karen and I have been preparing the forms and process for this version. This will be her first time with this project so go kindly on her.

The form will remain basically the same as the last time. One new addition is to identify the folks using WebTV since we have some formatting issues for these folks that need to be addressed. I would like to know how many of you there are so we can be prepared. In addition, a pdf format will be available as a choice of formats as well as the sortable spreadsheet format and non-sortable text format.

Now for the new folks who are now scratching their heads saying "What's this Directory?".

There are several previous posting that explain it in detail if you want to do a search, but for the short version:

The Directory is a listing of many of the members of RCTQ which includes their screen name, email address, real name and address, preferences for fabric types and colors, and birthday information which is optional. Entry into the Directory is totally voluntary. The information is used by the group members to share birthday wishes and of course, the always popular squishies!

Not everyone gets into the Directory. The information in the Directory is very personal so we don't send it to anyone not a frequent poster or well known on the newsgroup. New entries are vetted for newsgroup usage, how often new messages are posted, what percentage are quilt related. Basically, how well we know you. We take this part of the process very seriously since you are trusting us with your personal info. We hope you understand if you don't make it in this year. Stick with us and let us get to know you better.

Ok, here's how it works. A link will be provided in a message. This link will take you to a web page with information about the Directory. Read the info. A link on that page will take you to a form to fill in. Please fill the form in once! There are no extra points given for multiple entries and you will owe both Karen and me a squishie! When you fill in the form and click on the "submit" button, you will get a confirmation page that shows you what you entered. PRINT THIS PAGE OUT FOR YOUR RECORDS - IT IS YOUR RECEIPT!

The form will be open for the month of January. It will then close and Karen and I will start to sort out the names and format the information. We do not yet have a set deadline for publishing the Directory. This is Karen's first time at doing this, so it may take her a bit longer to get through it, but she will keep you posted on her progress.

So, that's it folks. The New Year will start the New Directory!

Happy holidays!

Thank you thank you!! NOt that my info has changed, but I know that Jo in Scotland has new info as do some others....I finally found my directory from this past year (gee, it was in the notebook I started for quilt patterns, BOMS, etc..right in the very front!!)...so, definitely looking forward to the new one - might put it in it's very own notebook...lol

I actually travelled so much on the weekends this year that I am off work until Jan 2nd making up the time.

But so is my DH! I intend to clear out the clutter around here for half the time and quilt for the rest of the time. Both will reduce my stress level.....oh, wait, I forgot my DH will be home too...

I like the idea of a .pdf format.......good idea!

Since I have started being serious about quilting for a living (long arm since Feb. 2007) my time posting on this group has diminished a bit. I do, however, read several times daily! Lots of great conversation and information! And none of the sniping that happens on other groups.......

Congrats on the change in job responsibility, Alice. Less travel is always a good thing......

One of the nice things about my recent trips was using my GPS unit. I was in Ohio and had just gotten it. As a test, I typed in "quilt" for a place of interest. 93 shops appeared on my GPS screen! I'll be in Sioux City, Iowa in early February. I wonder how many I'll see then! Gotta love the technology!

Hi Alice,

THanks for the heads up! As I'm still 'in between' computers and not posting as much I have to dig through 100s of messages each time I log in.... can you tell me what the subject line will be so I can keep a close eye on the messages for the directory so I make sure I don't miss it?

Thanks!

Any messages posted for the Directory will start with "Directory Alert" so look for that in your list.

Alice, it's good to know your priorities are being straightened out . Seriously, thanks for the advance notice. I missed the last directory and definitely want to be a part of it again.

I will make sure to post several reminders to the point of being annoying - you know, like the Christmas commercials. The form will be open for a month so mark your calendars, stick a post-it note to your screen, tie a string around your finger, whatever it takes. One month, January 1 to 31!

Alice Spent first day of my end of year vacation playing with my new Nintendo DS and Brain Age game (the sprinter game is the hardest so far), cleaning out my mailboxes on two computers, and (drum roll here) sorting through my bins of fabric to get them organized for tomorrow!
