Changed my mind. Decided I'm play with the blocks in a book given to me at Christmas, 'Rectrangles' by Pam Bono. Just curious, I googled a bit to see more of the Bono quilts. Waaah! I came upon

which is a really long list of pattern corrections. Good grief. If I attempt anything, I'm thinking I'd better do a test. Of course, we always should but probably don't always. Polly

My something new for this year will be to quit lurking and become a part of this group! I did post once a long time ago but never followed through. We're going to Arizona next week for the remainder of the winter. I won't have a computer so I won't be able to post until some time in April. As far as quilting is concerned I am a "newbie" so my something new is to make a quilt that has horses on it for a grandaughter. I have not chosen any pattern for it yet however I am certain it will come out of one of those magazines that has a title that begins with "Simple", "Quick" or "Easy".

I've been looking and looking for some fabric with a curling motif to use for a quilt for DH (he's an avid curler...the sport not his hair). Anyways, after searching though many sites with novelty fabrics I gave up. Looking that is. Yesterday I finally sent off a pattern with a curling design to Spoonflower.com so that I can get my very own fabric printed out. We won't say how *long* it took me to get this done....but just celebrate that it was.

Happy New Year everyone!! Allison

Dyeing is best done outside on a summer day IMHO. The cleanup is easier and it gives the neighbours something to interesting look at! Lots of fun all round!! LOL

My SOMETHING new will be ta cut back on my computer time. I spend WAY too much time reading about quilting THAN doing quilting. This ole 'puter (affectionate term, it is really newer) But recently I can not 'see' me posts) So I'll be reading on & off just not as much. May be I'll actually get some quilts made!! Now there's a concept!!

I am planning to take the plunge and go off on a quilting break/retreat/holiday by myself. DH is going on an astronomy trip in Feb/March, so now I need to find a suitable equivalent for me later in the year. I also want to nail FMQ - I can now stipple & meander but want to be able to do feathers and things like that, so that the words " quilt as desired" no longer strike terror into my heart.

I'm with you Nana. I was sitting at my computer yesterday just going through posts in various lists and before I knew it an entire hour has passed. An hour when I could have been doing something practical that would have freed up some quilting time for me. So for me, doing something new this year will be to limit my list reading to my morning coffee. Maybe I'll get more of those unquilted tops done :-))

I have been recuperating from the Arthroscopic surgery, on my trick knee, and not doing any quilting, so my mind has been wandering, filled with ideas for things to do. One of the ideas was to find a new guitar. I have a list of guitar shops I have dealt with over the years, and I found and ordered myself a new Guitar. I have a couple of other guitars of various types around the old homestead, but I wanted one of a particular type that is suited to finger style playing rather than the larger ones that would be played with a Pick. I have been dealing with this company called Elderly Instruments for years now, and I happened to be rummaging through their website, and came across just the thing. It is as recreation of the late 19th century parlor guitar, which is smaller bodied than the average type of guitar that is played today. Last year I bought a Hawaiian style acoustic guitar from them, which is called a "Weissenborn", so named, after the man who made them, which were popular during the first part of the 20th century, and played on your lap. Great fun when you play it wearing a loud Hawaiian shirt, and drink from a glass with a small umbrella standing in it. So I have had good luck dealing over the internet with these folks, and the new guitar is winging it's way to me as I type, carefully being handled by the men in Brown. I can't wait.

So Aloha and happy new year

That sounds lovely.

We shall be doing quite a bit of work on the house this year (new windows and renewed insulation), so there will be times of NO SEWING AT ALL! I may be wielding my trusty paint brush instead... After which there will be curtain making (booooooring! No room for fancy stuff here!), and new cushions and covers for my planned reupholstery of the sofa and Granny's chairs! And I think a few UFO's will get finished towards the end of the year, to grace the new room.

I actually don't mind doing curtains. I wouldn't want to do them all day, every day, but occasionally they are a nice break for me, from all those little fiddly bits we all love to put together. Yes! Those great swaths of fabric, flying through the machine. The horror!! Discovering that you need to rip out a 6' seam, Ah yes, Curtains. Do Have fun. John

I enjoy doing home dec stuff including curtains and blinds too. Ever since Leslie was going to do them she has been pretty scarce around here. Maybe she got caught up in all those yards of fabric?

Nice to see you back here after your medical dealings John. Hope things are all healing well. Taria

Got another cast on yesterday (Light blue this time) and another 4 weeks of staying OFF the foot--so no sitting by the SM. At least this time it shows PROGRESS in the healing dept. So I betook myself to the nearest Hobby Lobby, closest to my Dr's office, and bought 16 skeins of I love This yarn Soft Yarn to make a Ripple Afghan. 3 diff shades of poiple and one shade of cream. Started it last night---and restarted it and by the time I headed for bed I had the first 2 rows done. And then this AM, SIL and I decided to come up with a makeshift design wall and she will set out another Christmas TATW. Fabric has been cut for awhile--just waiting it's turn. So by Christmas 2011, I shall have an afghan for MOI in poiples and a new quilt for the bed :)

Butterfly (ONE year of no-sewing/quilting is nuff for MOI)

I am going for some nice long walks to build up my knee and wear out my wife. Both endeavors are proceeding as planned. I seem to be on the fast mend track, or so the doc says. Good to be off the pain meds. It was very deja vu,1968, and I managed to passthrough that phase and this one also.

Of course I am. Why would I not be nice to the best nurse a fella could have? She has been a real trouper and I am going to take her for a nice vacation as soon as this thing settles down into a normal state. But then I did the same thing for her when she had a knee operation much like this one, so I guess it is pay back time. Good to be back in the land of the living. John
