Does this look like a baby quilt

My DH said "will you make a quilt for someone who is having a baby?" I said sure. I didn't know if it would be a boy or girl, so I used green and yellow with some blue and a little purple and pink. Now that it is pieced, he has decided that it didn't look like a quilt for a baby. Can you give my your opinions? The link to the quilt is below. I don't want to go trhough quilting and binding if it doesn't look good for a baby. Men ... Can't live with them and if they aren't careful you CAN live without them (giggle)

I don't know. I give pretty "unbaby" like quilts away with bright, bold colours or different shapes. It all depends on the mood I'm in when I make it and I've never seen a baby reject one of them yet.

I personally love it! If you decide against using this one, you can always make it a gift for baby Rebekah .

I'll have to agree with Diana, that the baby won't care one way or the other. By the way, I do like the quilt too.

I think the colors are beautiful and the design is wonderful. This way the quilt doesn't make it baby but a child's love quilt.. I know that baby will love it to pieces, and especially since you made it for them.. Marlene

zo, you can use any interesting quilt as a baby quilt. Case in point, i recently finished a rail fence quilt using brick red, brown and golden yellow as the fabrics for the top, and safari animal prints in the same colours on the back. They're not the "typical" colours of a baby quilt, but I'm sure it will be loved and used just the same. If you want to see what I'm referring to, go to my website, then click on the date under "New Stuff" It's the second and third picture down.

It looks lovely, the colors are quite soft and pretty for a baby. But then again bright vibrant colors are nice for baby too! The baby isnt likely to care one way or another initially, but will love this blankie made just for him/her! Diana

What does a baby quilt look like? Well, it has some unholy stains, a splash of bleach from an unskilled but "just trying to be helpful" dear one, and one corner must be chewed off - by the baby or new puppy, the effect will be the same. Maybe the quilt just doesn't look like "what he had in mind". Bless his heart. Polly

I was just going to say that babies don't know what baby quilts are "supposed" to look like, just as they don't know that boys are "supposed" to be surrounded by blue and girls by pink. All babies know is that they are "supposed" to be warm and fed and snuggled and loved, and what's more, they're darned right! But I know something they don't know - I know that's a beautiful quilt and I'd have been proud to receive it for any of my babies.

Hi Zo, I think you did a great job and in my opinion, it looks like a baby quilt! I do the same thing out of my stash combining pastels to make it look babyish. But really, any quilt can be a baby quilt! Is it going to be from your DH? Maybe he can pick out the backing fabric to make it look more like what he expected (and who knows what THAT is - you're not a mind reader! Just nice enough to sew something up fast for him!) And while he is picking out that fabric, grab a few FQs for yourself for a job well done!

Zo, you made it for a bay so it is, by definition, a bay quilt! Mind you, my son came home from hospital in a scarlet suit with red Indians and cowboys all over, so I'm not exactly into traditional pastels and baby motifs for cherubs...

Sure looks like a baby quilt to me! It's beautiful. If I were a baby, I'd like it. Is your DH color-blind? (just kidding, really!)

A) it looks like a baby quilt, and a lovely one at that!

B) it looks more like a baby quilt than the one I did, which, bless their hearts, I just know the parents hated but they gave it to the kid anyway

C) I *love* the idea posted here of doing a baby print backing, best of both worlds, seems to me

D) maybe DH needs to learn how to quilt so it gets done "right" the next time!! (VBEG)

Thanks for sharing!
