Doggie bandanas

Piper is heading off to "Therapy dog" training classes now and he's asked me to make him some bandanas - naturally he wants the words "Therapy dog in training" emblazoned on each. What is a good bandana size to make? He is a Cavalier King Charles so is a medium small dog with long floppy ears - you can see his baby pictures in Winston & Friends

A bandana may be a bit small- and they can twist around fairly easily so you couldn't read the words. All the therapy and assistance dogs-in-training that I've seen wear a vest with the words on the back where they can be readily seen. I'm sure he'll excel 'in school'! The HairyButt Gang send their best wishes and a woof-woof to Piper.

My Reese's ( as in Reese's peanut butter cup) gets a bandana when he goes to to the shop to get a bath and nails trimmed. He is a dauchund ( 33 inches from his nose to the end of his tail). His last bandana is half a square and measures 18". It is cut with pinking shears. Hope this is of some help. Barbara in SC

Jenn, you haven't made us a picture of that gorgeous puppy in quite a while. We want to see Piper. Anytime today will be fine. Polly

Hi Jenn - I made loads of doggie bandanas when I had my shop, in all sizes. You can do the easy, pinked edges kind, but I made mine reversible. People loved them! I had a guy come in once that rode a Harley Davidson with his little dog, and I made one out of official HD fabric on one side, and flames on the other - it was pretty cool. Another couple asked for one with peace signs on one side and batik on the other. The easiest thing to do is measure around his neck, loosely, then add six inches or so. You want to give yourself at least 3 inches on each end to tie. Good luck to Piper!

Why do I keep reading this heading as Dodgy Bananas? ;)

Best of luck to him. The bandanas sound like fun. I'd make them about Scout tie sized... :)

The square cut on the diagonal is not a true square. The diagonal measures

19 & 1/2, the other two sides measure 18 on one side and 19 on the other. The dogs don't seems to mind. Barbara

Hi Patti - yes he's a beauty - takes after his mother! I have the calendar in which her puppy photo is shown with the adult dog who is Piper's dad. If you would like to see Piper's parents together, let me know and I will post a copy. jennellh

How wonderful that you are going to share that precious darling with seniors to touch and pet. I've been in 'hurricane batten down mode' all day and just looking at the pictures had a calming effect. He is so beautiful, as are you for bringing some puppy love to the seniors. 500 points and a gold star to you, Jenn. Polly

I have come to the conclusion that bananas need to be treated as gently as ripe peaches or raspberries! I love bananas... My banana mine has run out and needs replenishing!
