Hey that a pretty nifty form! I printed one and bookmarked it. Think its exactly what I need to keep organized!

If I had time to fill those kinds of forms out, I'd spend it depleting the stash making more quilts!

Hello, everyone, I have recovered now from ROFLOL and have to commit to delurking on this post. There is no way I would ever spend all of that time to inventory my Stash-I have 30 large plastic tubs, by color or theme, most of them full. I would much rather go through the fabrics, get some good stroking while looking for just the perfect one. I would have to spend another week at home just to go through half. Obviously, this idea is for a quilter in her first year/month of her craft!

My name is Brenda Reid and yes, my DH is Frank Reid, he of Grace Machine Quilting Frame construction fame. He is a wonderful man, but any harem applicants need to know that he is also a dedicated flyfisherman and flytyer. When we lived in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, England, he had a little problem with maggots seeking their freedom--have to tell you about it sometime. He will get excited about road kill and the possibility of scavenging parts. You would learn more about the insect world than you ever really wanted to know. And when he starts getting ideas about what your next quilt project should be, run for the hills because it will be extremely complicated. Although I must say he has usually been generous in his concern that I have the right tools and materials to work with

Many thanks to all those who have helped him with his requests for gift ideas in the past. There is only one problem that came out of that first request Christmas 2000: I already had most of the "toys" that were suggested! OOPS!!!

Frank would really like to send me to Paducah or Houston--any special details I need to know about your plans for Houston in 2004? I will be spending July 30-Aug2 at Quilt Odyssey in Gettysburg. Anyone going to that show? If you live within driving distance and can go, I would heartily recommend it. Apparently, the Eisenhower Center has been renovated and one can only hope they have added A/C!!!

Thanks, it will be fun getting to know you all.

You DO exist! Ok. Does this mean the quilt fairies exist too and my house will be full of quilts by morning?

Welcome to your new addiction (RCTQ)! Send finished quilts to me for quality assurance (snail available upon request)

Hi there, and welcome! Nice to see someone else who knows Cambridge - my dad's last RAF post was at Wytton, so Cambridge is known territory! Is Gordon Thoday's still in business? Used to love that shop...

Oh, and we need to know your chocolate, QI, and kids status... ;D

Brenda, Welcome to the group. I have enjoyed all of Frank's discussion about quilting things & machines to buy you. I'm in northern Virgnia ( and see that you're in Maryland). Which part of Maryland is Severn located? I usually go to the Lancaster, Ft.Washington( Philadelphis) & Williamsburg shows. I was hoping to get to the Gettysburg show this coming year. have you ever been to G-Street Fabrics yet? If you'd like a tour of G-Street Fabrics, Ikea & the Potomac Mills Outlet Mall area ( here in northern Virginia- just south of Washington DC) just e-mail me.

So nice to meet you Brenda! I agree, much more fun to rootle through the stash and find pieces I wasn't looking for. Sometimes they work out much better in the quilt. Roberta in D

Some people have way too much time! Probably comes from being too organized. Give me the pockets of order in the midst of chaos any day. Roberta in D

Sometimes the way I find out how much I really like a particular fabric is when I discover that I've bought it more than once (or twice). But then I've never been accused of being organized either. I can barely keep up with reading this ng let alone trying to keep track of the stash!

But if I filled out that form for each piece of fabric in my stash, I'd need to find a place to keep the notebook I put them in. And I'd rather use that space for fabric or quilting books.

Or, as in my case, it's just of sign of the fact that "memory's the 2nd thing to go!"

Sounds like a good idea, but I already -- to a limited extent -- have my stash organized by color. When we decide where we are moving to, I will have to re-arrange the lot to pack and move it. Then, when we arrive at our new home, I will have to put it all away carefully. Although.....looking for a piece of fabric that I KNOW I have gives me the opportunity to rediscover others I had forgotten.

I could never inventory all my fabric either, and I have a lot less than most of you. But it is inventoried, because I keep track of it as I buy it - so much easier as you go, than getting all motivated later and having a huge problem to deal with. One thing I did do a few days ago was to sit down and count the blocks I've completed through swaps, etc, and also the number of 6" and 5" charms I have. Result? I have enough charms, blocks and such to make about 6 or 7 full sized quilts easily. Next time I need a quick baby quilt, I think I'll just have a look through my quilt block inventory and calmly select a few.
