Flip-Flop Paper Piecing?

Has anyone tried this out? If so, what are the pros/cons of it?

I went back to Amazon.com and read the book's user reviews. The one dissenter explained why she did not like this method with, "Her method requires that some pieces be sewn on the paper side (as is usually done in paper piecing), but then you flip the paper over and press, fold, mark and sew other seams on the front fabric side and sew down parts of the block on the quilt front with invisible zigzag, topstitching, or even hand sewing."

So is this method essentially appliqueing the pieces that cannot be PP in the normal fashion?

Thanks, Bev in TX
