?? for the Janome users here

Do any of you know if all the various Janome models use the same bobbins? I was talking to a friend of mine the other night and she mentioned she only has ONE (can you believe it!) bobbin for her machine. I thought I'd pick some up for her in my travels but she wasn't sure of the model when we were speaking so I thought I'd check here.

I have two Janomes and yes, they use the same bobbins. The important thing is never, ever to mix up bobbins for different brands. I did that when I first had my Janome and ended up with a very costly repair. Definitely buy your friend some extra bobbins. I can't believe anyone gets by with just one.

Sunny (the bobbins cost about $10 for a pack of 8 here)

Only one bobbin? Boggles the mind. A new machine comes with more than one.

At any rate, Amazon is your friend:

Gee, Sunny, I buy 50 plastic bobbins at a time for my Janome. My dealer sells them for around $12-14 for 50. I also found them on eBay for about the same price with free shipping from that seller.

Kenmore machines are made by Janome and use the same bobbin, they are sold at Sears for $4 for 10 bobbins.

I am on my third Janome and I do find that the bobbins are different. Some are totally flat on both side, some have a curve on one or both sides and there is a difference in the first one (which is smaller) and the last two Janome 10,000 and the 12,000. I'm not on the same floor as my machine so am not sure about the number 12,000. It came out after the 10,000. If I try to use the smaller one or the one with curved not flat, the bobbin thread holder is not reliable. Ruined a forty dollar pullover shirt trying to embroidry a Butterfly. I'm planning to attach a Butterfly I put on a flat piece of cotton using tiny stitches by hand. I don't like loosing a 40 dollar anything. I'm a pensioner.

Thanks to all for the responses. I know she has one of the smaller Janome's so I'm going to go with the theory that probably the basic machines (vs. the various embroidery machines) use the same bobbins. I know the shop where she bought the machine and I'm not surprised she only got one bobbin when she bought the machine. Odd group of people there! I'm sure I'll be able to get some bobbins from the shop I deal with or even JoAnn's. Or I could go deal with the odd folks and get some from there, I suppose. I can't imagine having only one either! When I bought my Viking a couple of years ago I got 12 months worth of coupons for free needles, bobbins, thread, etc. I usually went for the needles after getting a couple of packs of bobbins. Got some specialty needles and then a bunch of all purpose. Haven't had to buy a needle yet. As we all know - what a difference your dealer makes!

Howdy!

Yep, different machines: different bobbins. My little Janome had a slightly smaller bobbin; the newer, bigger Janome bobbin is a bit rounder, wider. .. funny how that sounds like my life...

Good to hear from you, Rhoda. What are you working on now? Did you do the scrappy red quilt?

Yes, Sandy, I have the top, filler and back all ready for me to roll on to my 94" inch frame. It is the Hot Red pattern shown I believe in the December BH&G Patchword & Quilting Magazine.

Have been taking so time from that to renew my Spring and Summer ward robe with embroidry patterns. Clothes are not only expensive these days but also have a tendency to make one look "pregnant." I was in that condition nine times and have no desire to go back.

Thanks you for your affirmation.
