For the Texans!

I saw that! I might have to order it to go with the rest of my Texas fabric. I was thinking of making a Texas quilt or wallhanging for DD and her family. I think her husband would love it. I think I better wait until I see their new house in Arizona before I start anything. It might not go with her decorating.

I'm not from Texas, but I gotta admit -- that's a fun piece of fabric!

Now wait just a goldanged minute. You can't have both "Howdy" and "Hook 'em" That's like...like... Machine quiltin' and hand quiltin'--in the same quilt. Just plain Unnatcheral.

But....but..... but..... I do have quilts with both hand and machine quilting in them. And with both hand and machine applique, and even different styles of machine applique.

The colors are perfect for Texas A&M, too!

Monique: I don't get your reference. I know hook'em has to do with the UTexas Longhorns. I know Texas A&M is the capital of Aggieland. I know one does not mix them up!! So, does Howdy have a special Aggie connotation? I lived over

8 years in Central Texas (4 yrs and 4+ yrs) in the 70s and 80s .... but never heard about an Aggie claim to Howdy

Nope - you cannot have anything orange on an Aggie quilt! that would be just wrong, wrong, wrong!

Howdy is the official Aggie greeting. People actually do say it, start letters with it, greet friends and strangers with it. It's all over, everywhere. Public speakers always begin with "Howdy!" to which the whole assembly thunders back, "Howdy!" We even trained the local bishop to say it when he visits--and his seat is in Austin. There's a Howdy Week on the campus every year. Y'all come visit!

Well, if you appliqued a little Bevo (U.T. mascot longhorn) with his horns sawed off, he could be burnt orange so long as the rest of the quilt was maroon and white... ; -)

Howdy!

My dad, a native Texan, always said, "Howdy" for a greeting, I picked it up from him. My great-grandfather also said "Howdy"; he pre-dates Aggie speak. ;-P

Well, thanks Monique. I learn something new every day! I must say that I agree with Sandy that the greeting pre-dates the school spirit thing .... but I do love school spirit! Go Hokies!!
