Gift Ideas Needed

Yesterday, at Joanne's Store, I saw a unique line of fabric that would be fun to use. It features "engagement" theme, such as diamond rings, some words, etc. The colors are pastel, but the designs are lively line drawings, so the look is not sappy.

Well, that caught my eye because my lovely niece just got engaged! I just cannot figure out what to make with this stuff though. The only thing I can imagine is to cover a photo album so the couple can collect pictures and souvenirs of this time as they prepare for their marriage. Sure, a table cloth for a bridal shower would be fine, but I am not giving a shower. Any other suggestions? (Not a quilt!)

Thanks, Pat in Virginia

Howdy!

Pillowcases. Can't have too many, don't have to match to sheets. Lots of free patterns online.

Cheers! R/Sandy

How about a lap quilt and a tote bag to tuck it in?

As an alternative to the tote bag idea, perhaps a cover for a three-ring binder with lots of pockets and page protectors inserted into the binder would be handy? That way all of the information gathered isn't just dumped inside willy-nilly, but it can be organized for easier reference.

That said, I do like the photo album idea! :)

It would be a small project, but there's always the ring pillow. And it's something the bridge will keep.

GMTA, Sandy!! I saw a 'note book' in a new book I just bought and thought how cool it would be to make a special 'day runner' (tm) type book for the bride to be. She could include photos and keepsakes as well as some plans ... which would eventually become keepsakes too.

Are you home from camp already? PAT

Tote could be fun ... I don't want to make a quilt of engagement ring fabric. That is too time specific .... I like quilts to be timeless. PAT

I like this idea too!

I like to use the brightest, gaudiest fabric imaginable to make pillow cases for when I travel. I drag my down pillow everywhere and it helps me to remember it at the hotel when it is dayglow orange.

OTOH, I like to use quilt fabric for pillowcases because it just gets softer the more you wash it.

P.S. I like the binder idea. Wish I'd had one 30 yrs ago!

I just knew somebody had to notice that and say something. Gads. Don't know how the "g" got in there but then my fingers do fly sometimes when I'm typing.

But yah, the bridge will keep. :) as well as the bride.
