Gonna Be Gramma

Congratulations, I know how you feel. I found out my daughter is expecting our first grandchild in October. Took dad a little time to get used to it but I was out buying fabric for the cot quilt the next day. The fact I have

4 quilts for him (yes we know what he is) and Jess (my daughter) has taken up quilting he will not go cold - shame it will be just the start of our summer!! I have 3 kids, son 20, daughter 21 and another son 14. Weird feeling becoming a Grandma so young eh?

Woohoo!!! We just recently found out that our youngest son is going to present us with our very first Grandbaby in February. We are so excited. DH is taking this so well and is so much more excited about it than I EVER expected him to be. We have two sons, ages 20 & 23 (from my first marriage) and DH adopted them after we got married. DS told me that if it's a boy he intends to name it after his "Dad" because he has been there and loved him when his bio person turned his back on him. He wants to surprise DH with the name thing though.

I have already started a Log Cabin baby quilt for the wee one. This is my first Log Cabin and even though it's an easy one to do, it is a bit confusing at first. Just keeping all those strips in order so that each block will match. I've already screwed it up from what the pattern is that I'm using. But oh well. I think it will look ok when I'm done. I have some really cool fabric that is sort of teal green with blue, pink, yellow and green in it for the backing. Then I bought some of that fabric that has the little different colored handprints on it. I cut the hand prints out for each color of fabric I'm using. then I got the four solids and a print to match.

So everyone just send those crib quilts to me to machine wash testing. ;-)

Exciting stuff, this! Well done!

I keep meaning to get my mum a T-shirt that says 'If I'd known being a grandma was this much fun, I'd have had grandchildren first!'

I like the shirt that says: "Grandma's To Do List:

1) Load grandkids up with sugar 2) Send them home"

Haven't seen that one, but it would do too!

woohoo! congrats! But why would they send the crib quilts to you when I'm due in October?? lol just kidding....I feel like Rebekah is going to be like the shoemakers child Guess I had better get a move on with the other projects so that I can make a "mommy-made" quilt for her. Her cyber-aunt QueenieK has already sent her lovely presents that are already sitting in the crib, so she *does* have a beginning of a quilt stash........

Thank you all who sent the congrats. We are really looking forward to it being grandparents. Our problem is that the baby will be in Texas and we're in New York. So we won't get to spoil it as much as we would like.

My server is dropping posts again so I didn't get a chance to reply to others.

Where in Texas Mika? If it is near Plano I will be glad to fill in and spoil the heck out of him/her!

The nice thing about being a grandparent in today's technological age is that you can see their development first hand. I helped a friend whose granddaughter was in Guam with her parents (husband is in the military). We set her up with e-mail, internet phone, etc. Her daughter then set up a web site for the granddaughter where she regularly posted pictures and stories about her development. This made being away from the granddaughter a little less painful for all involved.

Holy moly!!! They are just out of Denton in Krum. We lived there from 1998 till moving here in the very end of 2001. Wow!! You're in Plano!!? My BIL lives in The Colony. We actually lived in an apartment in Carrollton for 3 months after we sold our house in Krum and just before moving here. Hey, we'll definitely have to get together next time I'm down there. That probably won't be until Feb. when the baby is born though. I guess a surrogate Gramma can be ok huh?
