Grace under Fire

Big Sis usually sends me one with a funny remark... This years had a raddles ole bat on it with the legend: I like to hold on to my drink - At our age we have to hold on to something!

I have one pincushion for Big Pins, but use the magnetic type as every-day pincushions. I also have a sponge mouse mat beside each sewing area, into wich I shove pins, needles, and whatever I need to be grabbed.

12 pairs of dressmakers scissors 10 pairs of needlework, scissors a dozen quick-unpicks 4 thread clippers...

Ok, I teach, but it is getting silly!

Now, as I get cold feet and hate traditional slippers, I'd give those a home, if just to anoy the Giant Mutant Ninja Teenager! Mind you, he has black and white tiger feet slippers...

I don't get into pin cushions too much but I do have a few favorites. A very bright green little one someone here sent me is about my favorite. Amazing how a thoughtful thing like that can be so special. That is my carry around pincushion. At my machine I pretty much use a small open boxy kind of bowl carved by my sister over 30 years ago. It is well worn and well loved. Can't imagine not having that.

YOu folks that really get into pincushions should get together for a swap maybe? Taria

I'm glad to hear that some of the wool got used. Wish I could have gotten more that was cleaner.

Polly, Polly. You'll have to take her on a shopping trip and encourage her to spend big $$ on a real SM with all the bells and whistles. Would serve Mr. Big Spender right.

We haven't gotten gifts from David's family yet. That's where the bad gifts will turn up. One year his Dad bought coffee makers for everyone. David and I are the only ones in the family who drink coffee. And we had a coffee maker already. Last year we got a pile of pink washcloths. This year we're both expecting sweatshirts with screen printed cartoon salmons on them (Don't ask)

Didn't drive up there yesterday because of ice. Not going today either because a) the tarts still aren't made (I suppose I should just offer to do them myself, but it is David's gift to his father. Sigh) and b) thunderstorms and tornados in our area today.

Tornados in Illinois in December? Who's ever heard of such a thing.

This year, I did not get any bad gifts since Christmas was minimal, what with moving my grandparents into the newly built casita behind my house. We now have the extended family thing going on, and it's lovely. However, it left no time for Christmas preparations so we decided the gift was the move, and a fabulous turkey dinner prepared by my mom. With some of my other adult relatives, we donated to charity in each others' names.

That said, we are dealing with a malfunctioning heat pump that will need to be repaired ASAP! Hmmmphhh!

What a great Christmas gift to you BIL, Carolyn. These are the type of gifts one yearns to give, and yet it's just so hard to find one that perfect. Kudos to you!

Hey Polly, or all those gals that don't like pin cushions, just remember that someone took the time to make something for you. A real positive step would be to put a hanger on it and use it as a tree decoration. You would have some pretty hand made ornaments that the person who made them would see when they came over and you wouldn't have to look at them for another year.
