High priced Quilt Books

Can someone explain to me by some quilting book are going for over 200.00? One example is "papercuts and Plenty by Elly Sienkiewicz. I though it might be a mistake but there are several sites that are selling it for over

200.00! This is not the only quilting book I have come across that is this outrageous. Would anyone here pay that?

I'm pretty sure that book is out of print which is one reason it is so high. She has another book that I would like to have, but it is also out of print, and I saw it on Amazon.com for $100. I'm not paying that much for a quilt book when I only want one pattern out of it. I'm making my GS a rocket quilt, and there is a papercut pattern in her book "Papercuts and Plenty" that she and Jan Davis designed. I have the pattern for the "Shuttle to the Stars" block, but no instructions. Sherry Starr

The book is out of print. Amazon.com has a couple of listings for used copies at $199(USD) and $249 (USD). I assume that the sellers have some reason to price that high. Are they really worth that much? I guess that is up to the person who wants a copy -- how much is she willing to pay?

A lot of the quilting books that are very high priced are out of print and hard to find. That kind of makes them "collectors items".

They have a great selection, even though their search engine doesn't work very well. I find searching for a book by the author's name gives better results than by searching by name.

The books on this site are all very heavily discounted and their shipping is only $1.40 per book (media mail). They also take PayPal which I love because I have my PayPal account attached to my checking account and not my credit card. I hate charging anything so any time I can pay for something on-line out of my bank account, I'm a happy camper.

Any chance you can get it at the library or on interlibrary loan?

I can't imagine paying that much for myself, but if I owed a quilter a really big favor, I might buy it as a gift. Might!!

Thanks all! I thought being out of print might have something to do with it, but there is no way I would pay that much, unless of course I won the Powerball, LOL! There are so many great books and patterns available that I think I would try to find something else. But, that is what I would do - other people might feel it worthwhile.
