HUG Quilts - invitation

Since we are beginning a new year... I thought I would extend an invitation to everyone to be a part of the "official" HUG list.

What is a HUG? In most cases, a HUG is a quilt that is made of love. When when of us needs to feel the loving arms of their RCTQ family holding them tight, someone often volunteers to make them a quilt. We send out a request for blocks (usually a set size and/or color combination) and the HUG maker receives them via snail mail. She (or he as the case may be) then constructs the quilt (sometimes she has help with quilting or binding) and it is delivered (in person when possible) to our very dear RCTQ family member in need of a HUG.

Sometimes it may be just a flurry of blocks... or squishies to help bring a smile to someone's face. Sometimes they are even more creative.

That's it.

So if you would like to be a part of the list of people who receive periodic requests for a block or two to assist in the making of a HUG quilt, please respond to me off list. The RCTQ cyber family has a strong history of supporting each other through the difficult times in our lives... as can be seen by viewing the HUG Gallery (graciously hosted by our own TerBear) at

Of course I would like to add a few things. The official Hug List is entirely voluntary. Sometimes a request will come when life has gotten in the way of everything. If a need comes when you are up to your neck, nobody is taking names. The Hug List is very confidential. Nobody has or is going to give out any personal information. The Hugs are not judged. Hugs are made with love; skilled, unskilled and sometimes, simply signed blanks. We participate as best we can. Some Hugs are not quilts. When Katrina took most of our DD and DSIL's possessions, they sorely missed their Christmas ornaments and received a joyful collection from our huggers. That was so wonderful. The most creative Hug I remember was when one of us was fighting breast cancer. She mentioned wanting scraps of our ugliest fabrics. We'll never know how some of that stuff managed to get into our stashes but, hoooo boy! did we ever exceed all expectations. Please join us Huggers. Participation will be a blessing to you. I promise. Polly

the HUG list is different than the directory. If you haven't received a HUG notice in the past 3-4 months -- than for whatever reason your name has disappeared from the list. (We do not add or remove without direction to do so by the individual.) Sometimes your email addy changes and you forget where all it is being used.... who knows.

We do not do an "UPDATE" for the HUG list like we do for the directory. Over time... for whatever reason some folks withdrawl and others join. Whatever works for you.

As Polly so ably said... the list is voluntary and confidential. Participate to the extent you are able and desire to. You are not judged.

If anyone else has questions.... please feel free to post.

Thanks!

Kate: I think you and Polly covered all the bases. I would like to add that if one cannot send a block, one can 'participate' with some good thoughts or prayers for the hug recipient. Also, the hugs are done 'in secret!'

Thanks, Kate.
