hug quilts thoughts

How about if each of us did it in OUR favorite color(s).

Have 20 favs? Use them all. Now that would be a bright Hug :)

Would they be the normal 6.5" squares?

I'm with Leslie in regard to pastels and muddy colours. A dear friend of mine said every quilt should have a bit of black in it - it's dramatic and daring but looks fabulous in most cases. I especially like to have one of the borders a thin black piece - it's a wow factor. Maybe there are more drama queens on here than you think. :-)

Leslie,

Are you sure you're not describing the colors I like? Like you, I can do without pastels and muddy colors. One time I was supposed to make a block for something or the other that required pink. I did not have one single piece of pink fabric in my entire stash!

ok....so i'm just jumping in with both feet here....sometimes "generic" HUGS are a good idea..such as a relative of a cousin the requesting member hasn't spoken to in 100 years, but if it's a dear mom or dad or sister, etc...of the member, or the member themselves, these blocks, (IMNSHO) should be made for that person, with their favorite colors, pattern, or what have you. I know I try to make and send the HUG block/card/fondling-fabric within at least a few days of the request.

as far as colors...some of the muddy colors are great blenders. i love brown, green and fall colors for that reason.

The thought that we all contributed blocks with purple or lime green in them cuz it's a favourite colour of the Hugee is ju st something that you couldn't get from a standby HUG - just my thoughts. I know these posts are very old, but I can't seem to find new ones at all l ately. Just wondering if HUG quilts are still being made ... also is there a gallery still kept of the quilts ... did the one for Gabby ever get done ? I know, a lot of questions but I don't see much posted about HUG quilts anymore. Just wondering. I recently requested quilt blocks for a very sic k friend who still loves to play with fabric but has little energy to do a whole quilt herself. I never got a confirmation about it or received any b locks ... yet ... so I'm just wondering about all these things.

Just a thought. Taria

Thanks Louise for the info on HUG quilts. I imagine it's pretty hard to ge t someone to donate the time to put a quilt together these days - everyone seems to be busy. When I put one together for a friend, I sent it out to b e quilted, so yes, money is involved when it comes to that, but it was wort h it for sure. Yes I have the directory and just recently put in a request for blocks for a dear friend who is very sick, can't do much anymore, but still loves to play with fabric when she's not too tired. She'd have a gre at time putting the blocks together, slowly of course, because her energy i s not high.

I didn't get any request for blocks either, and I've been in the last several directories and am on the Facebook group and Hug List as well.

I know that Kate still is in charge of the HUGS list. I just don't remember seeing that particular request come through. I have a few orphan blocks and I would be glad to pick one to send for your friend. Maybe you should e-mail her again. That IS the right e-mail address according to the current directory, by the way.
