I'm Back and Antique Silk Quilt-long

Hello all

As you've probably guessed from my replies to posts, we got back about two weeks ago. Been very busy the last two weeks trying to get a whole summers worth of outdoor work done in two weeks between all the rain. I guess that I am lucky that I missed it all, but July had record rains and Anchorage has only had two days over 70 degrees when the average is usually over 40 days. The last two weeks has been cloudy and barely above 60. We actually turned on the heat on Tuesday to get the chill out of the house.

Michigan was in the 70's and 80's which was great weather for helping Mom around the house and visiting family and all that stuff. Pennsylvania was

80's and 90's, and we had great visits with Bert's family and college friends. The family reunion even had some excitement when the pig sty next to the Conservation Club broke open and three rather large pigs crashed the festivities and we had to chase them away from the baby cribs and carriages.

Dallas was in the 90's and 100's and was absolutely way too hot for me. It was a good thing that the hotel had laundry facilities since we were constantly washing our t-shirts after sweating through them in a very short time. The hotel was also in the financial district and finding a place to eat was a challenge. Places are open from 11 to 3 for lunch and then close. It's like a ghost town after 5. Sorry Sherry that we didn't get to meet up. The Board of Trustees in their infinite wisdom cut our time down to 2 1/2 days to get the usual work done, plus a couple of added new tasks, so we were working evenings as well in our rooms to get everything done. I'll probably be back next May for the actual national conference and would surely enjoy meeting up then as it will also be a chance to get away from all of my kiddos for a short time.

I only hit one quilt shop that is near Mom that I have been to before. Lots of new fabric to fondle though and for my birthday Mom bought me a Jelly Roll and a book. Just trying to figure out which patten to make.

The exciting news though is that I have been given an Antique Silk Quilt. That is all that I know about it. Our retired art teacher that is now in Japan teaching that I made a quilt for, was back visiting so all the ladies and I got together for lunch. I almost choked when she told about selling her great-grandmothers quilts at her yard sale. I almost cried but didn't say anything. She then turned to me and asked if I wanted her old silk quilt and I immediately said yes. It's been dropped off at school this last week and since I don't start back until Tuesday, I haven't seen it yet. I'll definitely let you know more when I bring it home.

So, it's good to be back in our own house, wishing it was warmer but making do, finally scanned through all the postings that I missed, and enjoying my last few days before getting back to the grind.

More later and good thoughts to all
