I'm back - on and off topic - long

I got back last night after being away for 9 days to over 1200 messages. I started reading them and then realized I'd be here for days! I apologize if there are things I should have responded to and didn't.

We flew down to Florida to pick up Joey, my mom's golden retriever. My niece had been caring for him since my mom's death, but couldn't keep doing it. On the ride back to NY, I have to say he was better behaved than any of my kids ever were. We took him to the vet a few days before just to make sure he was in good shape for the trip and get a prescription for doggie downers just in case. He was fine - only got agitated in the hotel room because he smelled other dogs.

Cleaning out my mom's house and putting it on the market was very difficult. Couple that with the fact that I am in the middle mediating with my sisters. One would cleaned out everything and put it on the market the day of the funeral. The other would keep it as a shrine. Plus there's bickering over some of the possessions, and some pieces of jewelry are unaccounted for. Since I got the most valuable possession (Joey), I left almost everything else for them to come to terms with.

In order to motivate my sister to let us go through my mom's clothing, I asked her to please pick out a bag of typical clothes and I would make a quilt for her and each of her kids. She did that, but then left. We then went to work cleaning everything else out. Anything that we are not taking is being donated to an animal rescue society to use or sell since Joey was a rescue dog.

Today I got my back to school letter telling when and where to report . . . it's been quite a summer. I didn't work summer school this year because I wanted to relax, put together a sewing room and finish off my ufos. Oh well, the best laid plans, etc. Linda PATCHogue, NY

Glad you made it back Linda. I'm sorry it isn't under better circumstances. I do hope things between you & your sisters heal in time. Sounds like you did get the best memento of your mom by bring Joey with you. He's lucky & I think you must be as well. If only your sisters could imagine how sad your mother would feel knowing what is going on, but try not to let it get you down. Being mediator is a tough job:)

This summer just wasn't meant to be for your sewing room & relaxing. Maybe you can look forward to that next year.

A huge well done for this, Linda. In a little while, once the hurt starts to subside, you will realise that what you have done is the best gift you could have given your dear late mother. I feel so blessed that my brother and I didn't disagree about one single thing after my parents died. You will always be glad that you acted as you did. I hope making the quilts isn't too emotional for you. If it gets difficult, just put it aside for a little while - there's no deadline. Take care, . In message , WitchyStitcher writes

Oh Linda, it's always amazing to me how each of us is always so much stronger than we know. But I'm always sorry at the ways we have to find that out. Sending lots of Hugs and Strength and Prayers your way.

Linda-

I am so sorry for all the heartbreak and turmoil you've gone thru this summer. I pray your heart will heal and your sisters will come together and support each other during their grief.

You gave your mother a precious gift by taking her sweet dog home with you. (I worry what will happen to My HairyButt Gang if I should die.... they

*are* mentioned in my will). I have no doubt your mother is smiling down on you and very pleased that Joey has a loving new home with your family. And a Golden is a special blessing on anyone who gives them a loving home and a human family to care for..... ;-)

Hugs,

Piggybacking here, since I didn't see the original post. Linda, I'm so sorry you're going through this! I agree with Pat -- the gift you've given your DM is priceless, since I'm sure I'd be worrying about my dog, too.

Got BIL's ties and made pillows for his kidlets, wife, Sis(e)s and Mr Joe. They ALL appreciated them.Took me a coupla years before I could even try to do them but it did help me, too.

Just give it time and you'll know when you're ready.

Thank you all. Joey has been just wonderful. He is such an affectionate animal. It's so nice to come home to someone who is excited to see you. He also learns very fast. He had the run of my mom's house but we wanted to keep him out of our bedroom due to DH's allergies and I wanted to keep him out of the main part of my sewing room. He has to walk through a small part to go out. After just a few days, he knows exactly where he can and can't go.

Howdy!

This is like seeing one little bubble of air coming up to the surface of the lake after someone has gone overboard... "test"= *help*

B-fly, we've sent out a rescue team: grab the rope!

R/Sandy -- using an all-cotton rope made of the selvedges cut off of B-fly's stash fabrics, braided w/ some orangey-red yarn she had sitting on the sofa ...

Now for the biggest question of the day: Did my earlier post show up or am I still splashing water all over everyone?
