June Taylor Batting

I am wondering if anyone here has tried using the fjusible batting. I have tried it twice. Just tried yesterday to fuse a small baby quilt. It said to fuse both backing & top use steam well I did & it just fused the top of quilt. so later I tried fusing the back to the batting and it didn't stick at all. So I attached the backing to quilting frame & just laid the top on & basted top to backing at the top and that works ok.

Just got back from Auburn Quilt Show in Auburn, CA. Their quilts were so beautiful. They had a movie theme going and a gal playing the piano.

I use fusible batting a lot; but I was warned off the June Tailor at the start. I have since only used the Hobbs fusible - and that works beautifully. However, I mostly make wallhangings. I don't think I would use fusible for a baby quilt - it takes quite a few washings before it gets soft, and I have never found it cuddly (I used it on one lap quilt, too, as it was all I had at the time). Also, there are chemicals involved in the fusing agent which I would avoid using near a baby (it smells for quite a while, even after washing - at least mine did - but I don't know what the chemicals are, nor do I know anything about chemistry!) . The June Taylor batting has been discussed on this list a number of times. The consensus seems to be that it suffers from a poor, uneven application of fusible. Parts stick, parts don't. At times parts have too much sticky and cause machine needle unhappiness.

For a really nice fusible batting try Hobbs fusible. I've used dozens of packages bought at various stores and all have worked perfectly. Wash it and the fusible is gone and you are left with their lovely 80/20 batt.

I am anti-fusible every chance I get. The dratted stuff yellowed an important project once. I am not forgiving or forgetting. I'm not above using an Elmer's school glue stick now and then. That stuff is edible and ought to be safe. Polly

I went to high school in Waco, and then to Baylor U. Long time ago. My high school class is about to have its 35th anniversary. I was thinking about going back for it, but then I remembered how nasty most of those people were to me back then and how much I hated high school and put the whole reunion idea out of mind.

Sunny no longer in Waco, TX (but if you go there, eat at El Conquistador Mexican Restaurant)

Gee, Sunny. Don't know how high school reunions popped up here. I don't think it's the state or the school. I graduated with the most back-stabbing, throat-cutting bullies imaginable. What a welcome surprise it was when we went to DH's first class reunion. Those folks truly love and care about each other. We (they) have a next reunion coming up April 31. Our organizer may have become a bit senile (or she needs a calendar). Heck, no. By-pass your own 35th reunion. Let them stab each other. Polly

That's not a TX thing Sunny. That's a high school/college thing. I don't go to reunions either for the same reason.

It's hell being different when you are young.
