Kind of OT: Sewing Nylon fabric

My best friend's parents have asked me to sew some seams on these two little American flags that they purchased to put on their car windows. You know, the cheap nylon fabric on a plastic pole that attaches to the windows. They buy them at the dollar store, and want them to not fray so quickly.

Here are my thoughts, then give me yours:

1.) A small rolled hem stitched up with some nice white nylon thread. (And a small needle?) 2.) Fray Check, and lots of it.

The things only cost a dollar for goodness sakes! I'm not going overboard with them!

TIA!

Serged rolled edges in a fine neutral thread.

But I gave two ideas! Or should I do them both?

LOL do both. Narrow seam, and fray check at both corners? maybe even all four corners?

I would be inclined to simply use Fray-Check, keeping in mind that the Fray-Check may cost as much as a new flag. Best solution in that case is probably just buy a new flag.

I am not lucky enough to have a serger. *sigh* Maybe someday though.

Craft paint in matching colors or fraycheck whichever is handier.. You don't have to worry about things like hand or washability with these. If your friend's parents are anything like most people I know who put decorative things in their cars, they probably won't be removed or replaced until they get a new car.

To abort the creation of a monster, why don't you Fray-Chek the edges, using a half-empty bottle, and return the flags. Give them the remains of the bottle of Fray-Chek, "so they can fix any beginning ravelings." Also tell them where you bought it. Let them find out on their own just how much that teeny little bottle costs.

If all else fails, you could always just hand them a couple of flag decals they can use instead. :)

You could tell them that the flags create extra wind resistance, using more fuel, and thereby increasing our dependence on foreign oil. Strange but true.

Would the glue be affected by the sun and rain?

Coming late to this thread...

Nylon fabric can be finished using heat to melt the cut edges.

Pass the edges close to a candle flame. Try it on a scrap first to see how it behaves.
