light stand for Ott

I went to Michael's early last week, and bought not one but TWO Ott lights! I am using one of them at my computer for good light on overcast days and in the evenings, and the other for quilting. However, the one for quilting just wasn't good on the table next to my favorite wingback chair, so it needed a stand. Well, stands never seem to be on sale and can be pretty expensive, so being the cheapskate I am, I made one! I happened to have some very nice bits of leftover wood in the basement, and a spare 1x2, 4' long, in the garage, so I put it all together and thought about it for a couple of days. Yesterday I got my power tools out -- a jigsaw, a sander, and a drill -- some wood screws, a screw driver, a pencil, and yard stick, and made a stand to clamp the light on. It's got a base 12" by 12",

8" vertical braces for the long piece, and the long piece, all nicely sanded. And it works beautifully! I have it behind the left corner of my chair, so it is out of the way, mostly out of sight, and has the Ott light clamped to the top. Love it! And the price was right . . . I haven't decided whether I will paint it, but I happen to have leftover paint from painting the living room walls last year, and with the stand next to the wall I might make it "disappear" with the blue paint. Or perhaps not, since it's sanded so well. I'll think about it. I do almost everything quilting-wise by hand, with my only really "modern" things a good cutting mat and rotary cutter, and enjoy piecing in the evening with TV, so good light is really important.

Wow, you did great!!! I have an Ott light my daughter bought me a few Christmases ago but it's sort of a table/craft/hobby lamp. It only it was on a stand. Can you post pictures somewhere, I would love to see.
