Long haired fleece

I want to make a neck scarf for a young friend and I have the perfect piece of fabric but I'm not sure how to stitch it. It's got long 'fur' and is extremely soft and slinky, backed with some sort of shiny, slippery nylon. I thought a zigzag would be good, but it leaves a big, tramped down trail. Straight stitch seems like it's going to gather the stuff up as I go.

Any suggestions for sewing this? It's the kind of fabric that would make a gorgeous, huggable teddy bear if there was enough. As it is, there's just a long, narrow piece that begs to be stitched into a tube and given to somebody with a cold neck.

Sunny, when I made long hair fur animals and a fur coat I pushed all the fur to the inside of the seam. You want as little fur as possible to get caught in the seam. It takes a little time to do this, but once the seam is sewn and turned right side out, the seam is barely visible. A chop stick or some such is good to poke the fur away from the seam. Clear as mud?? Gen

Thanks, Gen. You know my computer thinks Sunny is a Threat and I don't see her posts. I've had teddy bear days too. Once you've stitched the seam: get a nice cup of something, get comfortable and comb the long hair out of the stitching. A fine crochet hook, tapestry needle ... just something .. plenty of time and happy sculpting. You can completely hide the seam with enough patience and coffee. Polly

When I sewed furry teddy bears, I had a small-ish wire brush that I used brush the fur out of the stitches. Being careful not to break the thread. The seams just disappeared!! Nana
