long time since last post

I can't believe how quickly time has gone by but I believe my last post was about three years ago. At any rate I have continued to look through the posts on this newsgroup and I'm constantly awed by the beautiful work that has been and is being done. As for me, I haven't been quilting for a couple of years - got into beading, polymer clay and cross stitch that has been keeping me off the streets. My wife and I are taking our second of three classes tonight on bead flamework and glass fusing - can't get much better- fire and glass!

I have posted some pictures of my previous quilts on my website in hopes that I will once again catch the quilting bug. If you visit the site, hope you enjoy.

Great to 'see' you Carl. Thanks for dropping in. I'm sure your quilting bug is only dormant. Your work is too beautiful to leave completely. . In message , Carl Ryan writes

Carl - you need to discover how to multi-task your passions! I'm into beading and clay, and scrapbooking and teaching piano - but I return to quilting at the end of every day, and often set the others aside for a month or two. (: Musicmaker

Carl, I looked at your site, and I can't help but hope you *do* get back into quilting. I love all of the stuff you do, but your quilts are gorgeous, and it seems a shame not to make more. :)

Carl,

I really enjoyed seeing your quilts, especially the "ladder of life". I've been thinking of making a quilt for myself for a couple of years now and plan to use scraps from quilts I've made for my family. This is a wonderful way to put those together and I hope you don't mind if I copy your idea. I had thought of some sort of braids or chinese coin quilt but I think this one is the one I want!

Thanks for dropping by,

Judie

Thank you Patti. I believe you're right about the bug being dormant - after putting the pictures of my quilts on the website and reading through the newsgroup, I got a rush of ideas of quilt pattern ideas!

Thank you Louise. Your Rose Sampler quilt is gorgeous - have to keep my wife from seeing that one or the bugging for me to create one would be endless! Carl

Okay Musicmaker, you've convinced me - another multi-task will be added. That is as soon as I cram another work table into my craft room!

Hi Roberta,

Take a look at my site under "Glass". I put up the photos from two of our classes. Fusing is definitely easier than flamework, but man that torch and melting glass when making beads!

Hi Judy - the bug bit me after I set up my website. Got the ideas, now just trying to remember where I stored all my quilting supplies - lol. Carl

Hi Judie, No problem in coping my idea - the "Ladder of Life" was a lot of fun to put together. The quilt was a gift for a friends little girl (4 year old) and I gave it with the letter I set a link to in the description of the quilt. It was quite funny when she opened it - she immediately laid it out on the floor and flopped down to take a nap. Her Mom rushed over and took the quilt, folded it up and stated that it was not for use, it would be a keepsake. I told her Mom that I had made it for use and that if it ever wore out I could certainly make a new one! I lost the argument - it's stored. :(

That's such a shame -- actually, it's a crime. That poor little girl would so have enjoyed using the quilt -- she won't enjoy a keepsake. :S

i agree with ya Sandy. maybe the mother doesnt really like quilts all that much. seems odd(to me anyhow) to put it away as a keepsake when Carl told her he'd make a new one if that one wore out so please do go ahead and use it. tis a real beauty too. shrug, j.

Hi Carl, Like you, I just returned from a very lengthy absence of close to 3 years. I did bopp in from time to time but without the ability to stay. My health kept getting in the way. It is good to see you again. Maybe both of us can give it a good try and stay around this time. julia
