Looking for fabric!

I've designed a Mariner's compass quilt using EQ6 blocks and one of Carol Doak's block. I NEED a fabric called Christmas 2005 by Makower UK. I found it online, but they want $22.00 a metre....can't afford that much....I need three yards of this fabric! Or something really close to the color of sand. Anybody have any ideas???? Thanks, Launie in Oregon

If you haven't started assembling the quilt top then change to a completely different fabric in a similar color. If you can't match it, then using a contrasting fabric- like for every other position- alternating the two fabrics. Or use your scanner and printer and print your own fabric.... that probably wouldn't work very well for 3 yards, tho. Can you show us a scan so we can see if somebody here has it? I know I don't just by the brand name. Good luck.

only $9 a yard (Oregon store)

If that's it -- maybe somebody here could get it and ship it to you... sure cheaper than $22 a meter I'd think!

It's a background fabric, so contrasting won't work....however, if I can't find the fabric I want (at a descent price) then I'll have to substitute it altogether. I'd love to show you a scan, but EQ won't let me copy the jpeg or whatever it is in the file. I usually don't go by brand name either, but that's how it's listed on EQ. Thanks for trying tho.

Can you give us a link to where you did find it? Or at least some vague decription, right now we've no idea whether it's a very distinctive design and the pattern uses features of it in a unique way, or any other description of it. You can often find something equivalent to even a very distinctive pattern, there really are only so many ways you can put patterns on to fabric, so you can pull out the key things you need from a fabric and substitute that way.

Another thing to bear in mind is that EQ6 and images online often aren't quite what you think they are and can end up disappointing when you see them in real life. It might be better to start with a fabric you love and either have, or purchase 3 yards of and work from there, you'll probably end with an even more stunning result.

If you need a sand color, Moda Marbles has a few that are perfect for sand - otherwise, you might consider a batik. (I just used a Moda Marble for sand this summer.)

. I did a search for Makower Christmas and came up with 8 pages of fabrics. I don't have a clue what the one you want looks like but there are several sand colored fabrics. As an alternative maybe Moda Marbles or (for more texture) Robert Kaufman's Fusions?

Launie, When working on a block or quilt in EQ6, you have numerous options for exporting pics. Go to FILE and midway down the menu are 3 export options. I usually use the Marquee option, but ExportImage would work as well. You can export the quilt pic or a block pic. If it's just a fabric from the library you want to share, then you just make a plain block with the fabric and export that to a jpeg file.

I've used this one in the picture in the past but don't have any left. It isn't sand coloured though - white with a metallic gold design.

Guessing that the reason it is $22 a metre is that you found it in a UK shop. This is the price of quilting fabric over here - twice the price you pay for exactly the same fabric! I think as this was a 2005 fabric you will be lucky to find it.

Yes, it does hurt. Thats one of the reasons I go more scrappy/sampler style - then I only have to buy larger measurements for the borders/sashings. I have bought mail order from the US which is cheaper, even with the postage, but I do like to use my LQSs - use or lose!

I do like Makower fabric though, and often find that the fabric I pull off the shelves turns out to be one of theirs. Their Christmas fabric especially always has a wow factor.
