Couldn't get to the picture. I do cut up old jeans, but so far I have only created 1/2 of a quilt. I'm using it even though it isn't finished yet. It's a picnic quilt. Once I put all the squares together, I'll put a flannel backing on and use it like crazy. I'm not gonna put a batting in it though...it's heavy enough already!

That picture sort of looks like the woven "hot pad/trivet" project I did with my Cub Scouts about 40 years ago. Now if you want to know an interesting way to finish off the seams on a recycled jeans quilt here's a link to the Weed Whacker Quilt.......I saw John Flynn actually do this on a morning PBS TV quilting program........what a hoot!! They didn't use jeans but I don't see why you couldn't. His site gives you step by step instructions and pictures........enjoy!

Hi Jeanne, I had difficulty getting the link too at first, as our default brower is Mozilla Firefox, but I went into the IE and did what you said and got to see the placemat. It was cute and yes very clever with the recycling. It would be good for teen rooms for their bedside cabinets. Not that I plan to rush and make one just now :) I've got a bag load of old jeans that I can't throw out since I 'MAY' one day get to use them. I expect it's one of those 'must try it out' projects. Meanwhile talking of jeans I did buy, recently, a pattern for making a Quilter's Companion thingy for taking to workshops or quilt meeting days so have something to carry your stuff and double up as a lap tray. It's done using old jeans. It's by Ami Simms and is called the Quilter's Portable Workstation, (better get the name right) As seen on QNN. It has a 72 step set of instructions so it's on the list of ' to do one day' projects. Elly

My sewing machine papers say it will sew through 8 layers of denim, but I would never have thought to test that claim in that particular way. I do like how the red Wrangler label just pops from the sea of blue, but I doubt I would have chosen to use that navy thread for sewing the mat together. It should have been Lime thread! :-D Debra in VA See my quilts at
