Merry Christmas... What did you recieve

We had a quiet day, just the four of us and Jo (who loves Christmas but doesn't know why). No family calls this year. The gifts were fun and the food delicious and we were all ready for a quiet night of sound sleep by the end of the day.

Love and blessings to you all, Sunny

Howdy!

Looks like you recEIved a spell-checker at some time, T. Now I have a pic of your DS w/ a couple of your pooches, wearing them out.. one on each boot? Any one get a tail stepped on? ;-P

Christmas week continues, windy and warm, balmy. Gave the newlyweds their wedding quilt, yesterday, but took it back to put a label on it. Also gave D-i-l my older Janome; she was thrilled. It was a great Christmas day. And there's peach pie in the kitchen, calling my name.

Cheers! Happy New Year!

Hey, I didn't write that. I could have though. My hands are giving me a devil of a time in the cold. I pulled a pie out of the fridge earlier and the thing fell out of my hand an onto the floor. 3/4 of the best apple pie gone. I wanted to sit and cry. Pies are pretty rare here these days. Rats. Think of me when you are enjoying that peach pie. Nice to hear that the new dil appreciated the machine. Woo hoo to that and good Christmas memories all around. Taria

I received fabric, fabric and more fabric. I huge big box filled with fabrics. DH completed my stash allt the way around. I haven't fully checked but there are most likely about 100 yards of fabric in this huge box. julia

Nothing quilty in the gifts, but what could have been a very sad Christmas without Mom turned out to be a fun holiday with one of my sisters. We loved our gifts, ate like champions, and drank way too much Fat Tire! But we had plenty of time to talk and reminisce over the two days. I wish everyone had sisters like mine! (Well, sisters like my favorites, anyway, LOL)

Carolyn So glad your day went better than expected. You are indeed lucky to have great siblings. But what on earth is "Fat Tire"?

This was the most un-Christmas like Christmas I've ever spent. Hours of waiting for a plane bringing DB. Camping in -24C nighttime temps in a tiny

16ft older holiday trailer. Huge bonfire Christmas eve. Opened presents Boxing Day afternoon. Now back home and still have to wash up all the camping stuff.

With 16 kids and 32 grandkids we had 1 son and DIL camped with us. They will be doing Christmas on New Years as their children were at the "other" parents houses for Christmas Day, so were feeling somewhat lost for Christmas too.

Glad the holidays are over, and I can get life back on track!

Customers coming in 2 hours so better get busy washing up all this camping stuff.

Happy New Year!

Fat Tire is a micro-brew gone almost bigtime here in the US. New Belgian (I think) Brewery somewhere in the mountain west brews Fat Tire, 2 Below, and several other beers/ales. Mary and I both like their products, partly for excellent product and partly because they also power the brewery with wind power. Very cool!

Never had a bad bottle of Fat Tire, either. On the other hand Stella Artois, a real Belgian lager and one of my favorite beverages, must have some problems. The last two times I bought some, around Thanksgiving time, at least two out of six bottles had gone "skunky" and had to be poured away. I'm not buying any of that again! Bad enough paying for a premium brew but then to have 30% of it undrinkable........

In the UK, Stella is an expenive factory brew, not a real lager at all. It tends to be brewed under licence all over the world. If you want real lager, go for the Czec brews, and try some of the dark lager. Yumm! I prefer dark lagers to the pale stuff: much richer and more interesting.

Some of those USA micro breweries make awesome stuff.

Ooooh! Thanks for the advice. I'd love to try some Czec brews! U.S. Microbrews tend to be interesting, though some of them taste very "oaky" to me. If I wanted tannic acid in my beer or ale, that would be fine. But I don't. The only bitter I like is lots of hops. I love a local Tucson brew, Nimbus Pale Ale, which is generously hopped. Tastes vary, though, and I have read some bad reviews on it.

That oaky taste is why I don't care for U.S. chardonnay wines. I grew up in oak country, and U.S. chardonnay tastes like they squeezed a bunch of red oak or pin oak sap into the wine. Makes it smell and taste like "pipi le chat" to me. There again, though, tastes differ and some folks like that taste. I think it must be very popular in California.

I do love the wealth of information on a hundred subjects that I can get from this group!

Popping in a little late here as we were traveling this weekend. DH did a great job this year. He normally goes quite overboard which he, thankfully, did not this year. He did, however, get me the find of the year - a box of original feet for my featherweight that I got over the summer. The original box and 6-8 original feet all for a whopping $5.00! The lady at the shop also included a new 1/4 in. foot! He said this place is the cats meow for feet - even for my other machines. Not sure that he'll let me in there unsupervised. For anyone interested, I have no idea of the name, but it's located in the Quakertown, PA farmers market. Also have a few other (requested) quilty IOU's coming from the UPS man. Otherwise, had Christmas dinner w/BIL & SIL and kidlets and then pretended to have dessert with some friends. Actually just a brief visit. Got to have a 'hit & run' breakfast with DSIS and her BF Friday AM while they were on their way to SC for vacation. Then drove to CT to visit Dad and DB/SIL and niece & nephew for the weekend. 6 YO girls are just too cute sometimes.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Mark went overboard and got me a Babylock ! I am afraid to try it, it has so many stitches and cones for thread. What is the best way to get to grips with this machine? I've never even tried a serger before.

I gave him several books, a DVD, and also made a bright red flannel shirt for him for Christmas - was sewing on that up until the 23rd! (Had to keep hiding it from him since my "sewing area" is in the bedroom now). I made two quilts for his nephews (Max, 4 years, and James, 7 months), and will post pictures soon (finished the binding on one in the car, on the way down to Cambridge, and the binding on the second one on Christmas Eve). I also made a hot water bottle cover for my friend's birthday present in January, and found a purple hot water bottle to match it. So there has been a lot of sewing lately, but I haven't uploaded any photos for a while. Will do soon!

Our family passed on gifts this year except for the babies. My oldest suggested earlier this year we all go to Disneyland to spend Christmas for several reasons.

So on Christmas Eve day we loaded ten of us from age two months to 70 years old in a van and a car and headed to Anaheim. WE did have reservations already made and tickets in hand the least expensive way we could find. My oldest daughter's fiancé flew in after work.

We all had a great time! Next year we are thinking of renting a cabin up in the mountains and possibly having a white Christmas.

Mary, I hope you didn't think your "coming out" would slip by unnoticed! Welcome! Where in Arizona are you? Have any QIs? What's your chocolate preference?

Your trip to Disneyland sounds like it was a wonderful day. Now, if you really want a white Christmas next year, I'm sure there are several of us on the group that would be willing to share some of our white stuff with you!

I can't believe I haven't gotten in on this subject yet! Must've been too busy playing with my new iBook Laptop! I never expected it!

Everything works great with my desktop network except Mail. I had my son's girlfriend set up the network because she has one with her desktop (but she reads her mail online) and she hasn't had any time to help me with this. I'll either figure it out or read my mail online. I don't know what happened this morning, my trying to figure it out last night or if Verizon mail burped but I had about 6 copies of each new mail on this thing this morning! About 350 unread emails! Any techies out there?

I also got swarovski crystal earrings and bracelet (it really looks like diamonds!) Wow! He did good this year!

When the Family is together, Christmas is extra special, eh? Glad you are posting now, Mary. So, I'd just like to say Welcome to the Land of RCTQ. We have fun here, no moderator, no rules. The only thing you really need to know is that it is very wise to have your chocolate vetted. Just send a pound or two to the Office of the Official Chocolate Taster of RCTQ, which is in my Palace here in Virginia. I will test and taste and report back via email. You don't have to thank me ... this is my unselfish volunteer duty in RCTQ. A tough job, but someone's gotta do it. :)

Thank you Louise and Pat for the welcome. I have lurked here for years and did participate in a Starry Night swap a few years ago. (Jessamy put in little chocolate squares with our swapped squares from Holland. That was nummy!) I have that top finished, just need to get to the rest of it. I'm going away for a quilty weekend on the 9th to my SIL's retreat cabin in the mountains. I have fabric to work on a couple of tops. There is supposed to be snow! Oh, I love milk chocolate! I can stand a little dark only if it surrounds cherries.
