More on Quilts for Kids

Just a bit of an update here. I finished the kit for this organization that I was given a couple of weeks ago. Boy these make up fast! At any rate...since there headquarters are very close to me I called to see if I could drop this off versus mailing. Sure - no problem. Well, I managed to make it there yesterday. This organization is still run from the founders home. It's a modest, 2 level home and per one of the volunteers, the owners have about 3 rooms left NOT dedicated to this effort. I believe it and I was only in 1 room! Bless their hearts - talk about fabric and quilts EVERYWHERE! Finished quilts, pre-packaged kits, fabric to be cut, you name it. I also picked up 2 more kits. I don't really have a stash to work from - just not enough room here - but I'm more than happy to sew up theirs! And they are quite happy to have 'stash' quilts as well. I expect to have these done in a couple of weeks since I'll be out of town for a few days. I'll drop them off and pick up more then.

Just thought I'd pass this along. They are legit, they do a great job. They will happily send kits if you want them. The volunteers are in the office Mon., Wed. & Fri. for 4-5 hours per day. They are very responsive to email/messages if you don't get a live person. They are very grateful for anything they receive. They also do workshops both locally and around the country. So, if you're looking for some charity work and don't have a lot of $$ to be spending, this is a great vehicle. All you're contributing is your time, some batting and thread. All other components are supplied in the kits. The kits make up in about 8-10 hours total time.

NAYY, just passing along my personal experience.

Any report about how many quilts they have facilitated? (Kits sent out, quilts returned?) I made one for them, some months ago.

No idea - I didn't even think to ask. I don't know if their policy is to acknowledge receipt for those rec'd by mail or not. The original kit I did was given to me by another quilter. I don't even know if she does more than quilt for them but the woman I spoke with yesterday did recognize her name when I mentioned that was how I had rec'd the kit. They seem like they are quite busy and are probably on the cusp of needing to go full time. I think the Downey sponsorship has helped them tremendously with being able to provide kits and have them returned but I don't know that they realized the response they would get. I'll try to get some more administrative info when I drop these

2 kits off in a couple of weeks.

I did not intend to imply that the quilt I made was unacknowledged. I did get a receipt.

My question was just wondering about the totals thus far.
