Nautical Quilt Theme

Need suggestions and patterns to make a Nautical Theme quilt.

My son is a fisherman, and loves to fish and crab.

All suggestions welcome, but need fairly simple blocks as I am just a beginner.

Hullo again Carla - on this topic!! Would it be sufficient for you if the blocks had nautical/fishing names? Or do you want nautical/fishing Images? If the former, I will look up my encyclopaedia and 'fish' some out for you!! If the second, try Google Images and simplify any pictures you like. None of the appliqué things, on a seaside theme, that I have in magazines would be suitable I think. Are you starting soon? .

How about sail boats? They are fairly easy and you can make the boats and sails from the nautical fabric, and use a fabric that looks like water and a fabric that looks like sky. There is a paper pieced pattern, I think, but I used this block in my very first quilt and I pieced it.

Here's an example, but you can probably find more on the web.

Carla,

JoAnns has novelty prints with fish and lobsters, and I'm sure crabs, that you could use and do a log cabin quilt with....just a thought

The Storm at Sea block is easy. It can be foundation pieced, too.

Here's a pattern that is not paper pieced in case you are not comfortable with paper piecing yet:
