New answer to fabric question

Recently Marianne Fons was on Simply Quilts ( It was probably an older show. ) and she answered the question of how much fabric should one buy?

I loved her answer, and hereby pass it on (paraphrased) for those new quilters among us.

Alex Anderson: How much fabric should you buy? Marianne Fons: I buy enough to do a washer load with it. *grin*

Hope this helps, Elena in Tx

Perfect answer! and it doesn't even restrict us to buying all one piece. Although there's bound to be some smartaleck asking how much fabric a washing machine actually holds... Roberta in D (If you have to ask you can't afford it?)

That's what I love about this group -- there's always someone who so selflessly volunteers to test a new theory!

I will go even further, and volunteer my brand new washing machine to resolve the ultimate question... how many quilts will fit in it? Just send them right along to me as soon as you are done.

I will step forward to test the capacity of washing machines. If each of you would send me a yard or two of material I will let you know when its a full load. Diana :-)

Gotta make this a proper study---how many crib-size vs twin vs king, etc---and all the permutations thereof. sounds like a job for more than one person---I nobly volunteer to join the committee :-D

Ok we simply MUST make this fair. I will volunteer to test the theory with the crib quilts. So everyone needs to send the crib quilts to me. I will promptly post the results after the test is completed.

Yes, and she does pretty well for herself.. tho she would like you to believe otherwise. Diana, glad that LN is not around to defend herself :-)
