Who's that hanging on the wall, Polly?

There are a few more Sammie-cat photos in Winston's album too - my sister bought her a toy hamster complete with wheel - talk about spoiled! The new photos are pages 6 and 7 and yes, her undercoat has given her a ginger tail. barnyowl - jennellh

Thank you, Jennifer. Now everybody can see my wonderful sewing room - or at least parts - and laugh about the bearded quilt from Heck. Honestly. I was sitting at the cutting table trimming blocks for the string sort of quilt that Sunny and Taria showed us. Just lost in my own little world, turned and saw my buddy with the quilt over her head and around her neck. What a hoot she is and what a struggle! Up on the wall is my own Winston - he's the deer my maniac-hunter neighbor gave me. Don't all of you quilters have a buck on the sewing room wall? Also, I do hope you notice how neat my cutting table is; nevermind the mad quilter at the SM. Polly

I think that your Winston is the perfect place to hang your strips after cutting - my Winston, on the other hand would run off in the opposite direction screaming like a banshee at the sight of such an item on the wall (he really is a timid little thing) - Sammie would no doubt climb up there to check out the view from the top of the deer's head, then she'd chomp on the antlers hoping that would garner some attention. You do realize that folks will be wanting more photos of your environment and if you could manage a gator or two - that's fine also. jennellh

Taria asked > Can you imagine that realtors frown on a mounted deer head on the wall?>

Well, yes. We realize HGTV would go faint at lots here in our home in the Swamp - but, post Katrina, there are so few homes here with walls and roofs that it wouldn't be a problem. Polly

I have a big horn sheep on the wall. It's actually the living room, but that is where I set up a table to cut and a hang my design wall and any other part of my project that overflows from the room that stores all "my" stuff!

Wish I was in there sewing right now!

Ah me, Marilyn, I love it. Just wait until I tell DH that you have a mounted big horn sheep. LOL. That's wonderful. While you're getting a peek at my sewing room, do notice the cabinet base beneath the deer. We took an abandoned kitchen cabinet, put on a new top (whatever was cheap at Lowe's) and painted the rest. It has 8 drawers and 5 doors beneath for putting away lots of good stuff. The best part - it was free. Wrecking yards are heaps more fun than yard sales. Polly

Those aren't pink ribbons, Roberta. Winston is wearing his bunny ears. You should just see him in his gold and purple beaded Cleopatra wig. Elizabeth Taylor would be envious. Polly

"Roberta" O my lord, I love the deer! Pink ribbons and all!

Jennel thanks for posting Polly's pics and your own, and Polly thanks for the pics and allowing Jen to share.

I really enjoy seeing little snippets from the life of other quilters. I really don't have many real life friends with crafty hobbies. Even with this huge family that I'm part of, there are no quilters. A couple of the girls dabble with a bit of bead work or scrapbooking, but not to any great extent. I have one daughter who sews when the mood strikes and one who has a sewing machine, and has made one quilt, but she's too busy playing taxi mom for her

3 kids.

So its really great for me to be able to see that other people sew in rooms with dead animal heads. (Mine's name is BUTT Head) and to hear that other people turn the living spaces in their house into sewing/quilting space when they need the room.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. The sun is finally shining here again, but I don't have books done for taxes yet so I don't get to go outside and play, and if I even headed for anything fabric related I'd be in BIG trouble. LOL

There, now I've had my morning coffee, checked thru all my online groups, put all my bedding plants back outside, (we are still getting frost at night here) and it's 8:20, so I better get back to the books.

My mother had 7 brothers and all were hunters. I grew up thinking it was perfectly normal to have deer heads hanging on the living room wall. Two of those uncles have done a lot of hunting of all kinds of game all over the country and have added "trophy rooms" onto their homes. I think the taxidermists must really enjoy seeing them come.

My living room wall sports a 6 point deer antler rack, with the velvet still on it. Over the years it has been graced with streamers, fabric strips, garlands based on the different seasons, additions to make it a holiday decoration [gold/red/green bulbs and tinsel]. Right now it has a garland of metallic gold and silver stars. I have lovingly moved this decoration five different times in 13 years. Would like to get a cowskull with or without horns to have and decorate with beading.

I don't have a wild animal head on my wall but I do have a mask that my DD2 made of her face, painted gold with wings instead of ears and dangling beadwork. Come to think of it, maybe it is a wild animal's head ;). And I don't just use the front room sometimes - I have my sewing machines set up there permanently, with a cutting table and a large design wall as well. I live alone, and people who are welcome in my place know what to expect - chaos!
