New projects pictures

Hello folks,

I have added some photos to Webshots, which I have not updated in ages. The last 5 photos in "Projects" show some lightweight slippers I made for Mark's sister Elizabeth's birthday. Pink is not my thing, but I still fell in love with these and it was hard to post them. My albums can be found here:

Tell us about the slippers, Jo. What fabrics did you use? especially: what for the soles? Where did you find a pattern. Looks like something we may have to give a try. Polly

Hello,

I bought the pattern at Etsy:

It was an e-pattern, so it was easy to download and then print off. The seller was IThinkSew and her shop is:

I've just had a look and she has zero items for sale just now, but if you emailed her, I'm sure you could buy it. I think it was $4 which is quite good for the instructrions and patterns in several different sizes. Just two points to make about the pattern: The designer is Dutch I believe, living in Canada and the sizes are really strange. Bearing in mind the seams are 1/4 inch and included, I put my foot on various of the "sole" patterns to see which one fit me, with 1/4 inch showing all around. Now my shoe size is 6UK and 8 1/2US but the "size 9" is the one I would make for myself. And the sizes in this pattern only go up to "size 10" so if you wanted something bigger than say, 6.5UK or 9US you'd have to enlarge them to do so. Which is not a big deal, but I thought I would just mention.

The other point is that sometimes it is hard to understand what exactly she is trying to say in the written instructions, but I think that is because English is not her first language.

The pattern is very versatile, and great if you want slippers that are not furry or hot.... I have plenty of patterns for cosy, fur slippers or the like, but it was nice to have this on hand for someone who has a summer birthday and seemingly has everything. I was able to ask what shoe size she wears and what sort of colours she likes, and she never for a moment guessed what she would get for her birthday. Fabulous.

I used a Debbie Mumm print for the outside, a Makower red spray print for the lining, and grippy fabric for the soles. The pattern calls for fusible fleece to go between the layers, but I have never seen this beast called "fusible fleece" - is it even for sale in the UK? - so I inserted a layer of microfleece or a cheap imitation thereof. It just provides a little "something" between 2 layers of quilting cotton. I then quilted it after the slippers were assembled. I'm sure if you used fusible fleece you wouldn't have to do the extra quilting. The grippy fabric is very hard to find in the UK; I'm sure I bought it from somewhere in the US and use it sparingly!

We had a tote pattern that called for the fusible fleece to be used for the insides of the tote's handles. We didn't have any of that here either. We got out the glue stick (something we keep at all times) and made our fleece fusible. We do what we've got to do. Thank you for the details. The shoes are precious and would be a special hit.
