New to Group and Glad I Found You

Hi Everybody,

I have been lurking on this group for about two weeks. I have been reading posts as far back as a year old and have learned alot and find that you are a really friendly group.

I have been quilting for about a year, have made 2 king size quilts, 8 lap quilts and have a nice stash of fabric, both scraps and "oh, I love this collection" and bought 8 yards of it. I shop the LQS's , online shops and ebay on occasion.

I live in the midwest, married and one son living at home, three step- daughters in TN. Oh, one other family member the QI bichon frise.

I am working up to making triangles, but have been a bit intimidated by not getting my points sewn correctly,at times I have a hard time matching a 9 patch block! Ugh!

I look forward to making new friends and learning more about my favorite obsession.

Welcome to the group Zimmy. Keep your eyes open for the next invitation on rctq to be in the directory. THEN we'll be able to send you occasional, precious, and oft anonymous surprises in the mail like CHOCOLATE (which I noticed you didn't name your preference). I remember when I was a year old. Every chance I got I bought more fabric for my stash, much of which I eventually gave away because I realized that I'd bought it without even knowing what my tastes in quilts and fabric would develop into. Be discriminating!

Welcome Zimmy

Yes we are a friendly group. A lot of us have been around this quilt frame for many years, so if you have any questions we will all try to help you.

We like chocolate around here, me I like chocolate muffins and hot cocoa on a cold winter day.

Glad to have a new kid on the block. Pull up a chair and enjoy this addiction.

Welcome Zimmy. You've done well in the number of quilts made in your first year. I don't think I did that much in my first 10 >gHi Everybody,

Hi, Zimmy! Welcome to the group! We are a good bunch and have lots of experience here! Ask away.

Have you tried "Thangles"? these seem to be the easiest for triangles.

Pull up a cyber chair and let the fun begin!

Welcome to the group, Zimmy! (And what a fun, unusual name you have!) Do you have photos of your quilts posted anywhere so we can see them? You've covered the QI section of our usual questionnaire, but what about chocolate?

As for matching, I've found that using *really* fine pins can help; some of the "regular" pins are so fat that there's really no chance of getting accuracy. The pins I'm using now are called IBC silk pins, marketed by Clotilde; I'm using some with old-fashioned metal heads, but I think they're also available with glass heads (better than plastic, as they don't melt when near an iron ;) ).

Hi Zimmy! I've been making quilts a few months now, so I'm new to quilting and to RCTQ. This is a very friendly, knowledgable group, as you've already seen. And your chocolate is safe with me :-)

Gee! You guys were right, I forgot about the chocolate, I really like dark chocolate, love Molton Lava Cakes, M&M's plain and well, I love it all with the exception of fruit flavors added to chocolate.

I also love coffee and an adult beverage or two.

I would reply to everyone but would be here for the rest of the afternoon. You all confirmed my suspicions, you are a great bunch.

PS will bring M and M's next visit

Howdy!

Welcome! Glad to see your comprehensive intro; lots of info here.

You've been busy: Great! Jumping into the big Quilt Pond and Finishing all these projects- Yee-Haw!

Collecting fabric is a good tradition; I enjoy "shopping the stash" for the treasures that are there, and adding to it whenever I can. You never know when that fabric you fall in love with will be just THE addition you need in your quilt project. Here's my latest completed quilt, a Hug Quilt made for our dear Donna in Idaho:

I shopped specifically for the green "water" the turtles are swimmingin, and snatched up the backing (green moss, as Donna describes it) while atthe quilt shop in Arthur, Il. (run by an Amish family), most of myadditions to the RCTQ blocks came from my stash; frogs, fairies, butterflies, leaves, grass, flowers- right there in the stash waitingtheir turn to join the other lovelies. I'm in the "Midwest", too, the southern Midwest. It's a beautifulplace this time of the year; Stanley dog (English Springer spaniel) hasbeen helping me clean up the leaves and rootle thru' the lizard hideoutsthis week. Matching points: measure carefully, pin judiciously, practice-practice, and it'll happen. Quilt books from the library are your friends. ;-)

Cheers!

Hi Zimmy, glad to meet you. This is a great place to learn and make friends. Just a question -- are you trying to sew two triangles together? There is an easier way!

's just one place where you can get good information and lessonsonline. I love Youtube.com. I find all kinds of tutorials for quiltingthere.

Don't worry too much about points. In time they will find each other. I am one who gave up on matching points almost from the start. But after doing this for a few years now, I find that my points are matching up on their own more and more. So give yourself time and be patient. And if anyone can give you good info, it's this group.

Hope to see photos of your work! If you don't have an online place to post, try

What a cute quilt! I need to get or at least remember my password on flicker.com. My hard drive crashed on my desktop pc, and I am using my sons girlfriends laptop. I have several pics that I would like to post, but do not want to install the software on GF's laptop.

Some of the quilts have not had pics taken.

I will make a run to the store for M&M's. ;o)
