New year, new batting

I have plucked up courage and cut the first piece off from my first ever roll of batting! DH & the boys listened to me when I said that was what I wanted for Christmas and today I have time to do some quilting. No more wondering if I have a big enough piece, or smaller bits to piece together and whether they are the same type. For the foreseeable future it is soft'n'bright all they way. I like soft and bright because it washes and dries easily, yet still makes a cosy extra layer.

I like 'em both, Lizzy. Great way to start out the year.

I haven't sat down at the sewing machine for over a week. I got sick the day after Christmas, and then once I got to feeling better, I had some catching up to do on a lot of other things. A couple of unexpected things came up yesterday and today, so my plans to sew continue to get pushed to the back burner. Maybe tomorrow!

I just love that tree wall hanging and the colors of the crumb quilt. You were busy!!

I finally made my first quilted purse using the Lazy Girl "Towne Purse" pattern. Finished it over the weekend. I've had the pattern for probably 3 years but for some reason or other never tackled it.

Am also doing several RTW pants alterations. I'm short, and sometimes even petite RTW pants are too long for me. And, for some reason a lot of garment manufacturers think that all women want flared pants....well, flared pants just make me look a lot shorter than I really am...not to mention making me look like an old hippie :) So I always have to 'take 'em in & take 'em up.'

I'm not an old hippie either. It's not that I wasn't willing or that they weren't having a lot of fun but I was busy changing diapers and making cupcakes for kindergarten. Generally I avoid the flared pants cut; they look good on folks 5'10" but that hasn't happened. Yet. I like the look of gaucho pants and tall slim boots but they don't work for us short people either. Meanwhile, back to rolls of batting. It's hard to find the blend that works best for me. For crib quilts, I like 50/50. When my roll got down to maybe 5 or 6 quilts I started hunting a roll replacement and to my surprise, found one. So. Now. There's two rolls of batting standing in the guest room. Our Christmas callers were surprised to see so much batting on guard. Little do they know. It's almost as good as having a box of 100 sm needles. Polly
