For years I'd saved this pattern for a Wounded Warriors quilt and finally have it begun. The Christmas tree needs gently packing away and the mantle is still decked out in Christmas cards. I truly hate to put them away but suppose I must. Meanwhile, there's this easy quilt underway. I have the star template cut from coarse sandpaper. All I have to do is lay the star fabric facedown on a similar scrap, stitch around the template, trim/clip and turn. The rest is rather mindless. Mindless? Yes. That's about what's left. Here's the quilt:

it's a very pretty quilt!

We also need to take down the tree....de-ornament it, take off the lights and then drag it outside. i am thinking that i might like to let fred and nate do this. i hate taking down the tree...i love the lights!

We need to wait until January 6 (12th night) before dismantling the tree. That's when the neighborhood children come around, dressed like the 3 Kings, to recite a little poem. One of them has a censer of incense (i.e. frankincense), one of them carries a box for donations (gold), and the third is responsible for keeping track of the chocolate bars (bitter like myrrh if it weren't sweetened). They write a blessing on the front door (christus mansionem benedicat, or CMB

I did have the brains to go to Nov 2012 on the calendar and remind myself of some things I'll easily forget. You know - annoying stuff like needing an extension cord that isn't flourescent orange. The one we used this year hardly went with my decor. Wish I'd been smart enough to label one box 'open me first'. That's the one with the extra ornament hangers in it . . . and it's always the last place I look. Polly
