Ohio stars and quarter square triangles

how many of them do you need? it will work. start with the sqs in four different colours. make the HSTs first. then switch those HST colours to make the QSTs. so start with red, white, green, blue. make HST with red/white and green/blue. now use one red/white with one green/blue to make the QSTs. hope that is clear. need size to start cutting? take finished size of QST wanted and add 1 1/4" to that for the cut sqs. easy peasy really. hth, jeanne

hmmmm, i might of read that wrong. if you want QST red/white/red/white. make the HST in red/white, then use two of those to make the QSTs. once you get those HST in your hot little hands, lay them on top of one another and you'll see how the QST you ask for work. its done all the time and you'll find this so easy once you get going. sorry if my first response was confuddling. tis still early here and i woke again before sparrows fart. grrrrrrrrrr. jeanne

Hello!

A while back members of this group showed me how to make quarter square triangles with opposing triangles the same fabric by sewing diagonals on facing squares, cutting, and then rotating.

I don't think this would work for QSTs with one set of opposing triangles of *differing* fabrics, as you might want for an Ohio star block. Or am I wrong? I have a terrible time visualizing this sort of thing.

And if I'm right, is there another method for making these that is not just sewing the cut-out triangles together?

TIA!

Martha

congrats, Martha. those quarter/half ones are great if you wanna try a 'card trick' block. quilterscache.com has one among her thousands of free blocks. another problem of the world solved. cheers, jeanne

As usual, group members to the rescue! [g!]

Thanks so much, both of you! I can see it now.

And I've saved the sites, because one day I might want to do those quarter-half-square thingies!

Thanks again.
