OT - 34 week antenatal check

Hiya folks,

I had an ultrasound scan today, blood taken, and the right side of my nose cauterised. Not standard probably, but I've had a nosebleed nearly every day since May, and they are worried that I'm losing blood every day in this way - was recently very anemic and am just now on the "normal" side of iron and hemoglobin levels, and in the home stretch now, so....

Anyway, baby is fine and in a good head-down position, but rather cramped in there. Not much room to move anymore! Baby is right on the line for the 50th centile, which is good, because everyone is telling me how enormous I look and I don't want to have a giant baby actually! 3 more antenatal classes to go and then we'll be done with that.

Have I mentioned we have the builders in? As well as plumbers, electricians and plasterers? Yes, and they were all in at once today. I was glad to escape to the hospital actually, considering there was no hot water, electricity or a functioning kitchen (for the 4th day in a row for that last one). However, we came home to a newly re-enameled bath which looks smashing and we shall be trying it out tomorrow night. There is so much work to be done on this house, and I am sure hoping they can get it done before Christmas, so we can get the new carpetting, painting and wallpapering done before January 12th, 2010.... not that there is a deadline approaching or anything. Oh, for a house without builders' dust!

Thanks for the update, Jo! I'm glad to hear that your baby is progressing right on schedule, and I sincerely hope that the house stuff is finished really soon. That's so wearing!

Uh oh. My mother (who knew everything and the facts never affected her opinion one bit) said that the fumes from paint would cause me to go into labor. I painted the kitchen. I went in to labor. Did mama say, "I told you so"? You bet your boots she did. Not at all sure that had anything to do with anything, Jo, but does your doctor know that you are doing a remodel and is he okay with what you may be breathing? Polly

34 weeks already Jo, wow that went quickly. I'm sure the next 6 will be here before you know it. Good to hear that things are progressing well

Yes, everyone knows, and the painting and carpetting won't be done until after Christmas/January I reckon. But, it has to be done and I'll escape to the library on the days they paint. They won't be painting in our main bedroom at any rate! They re-enameled the bath yesterday and boy did that smell! We had the windows open in that room for about 24 hours and since it's been around freezing that made the house nice and cosy (not). Today they are varnishing the kitchen floor (old wooden floor boards they sanded down the other day) and that reeks too, but we were at an antenatal class so missed most of that. So it's just a matter of going out I reckon....

(Baby - stay put!)

Hi Jo,

So glad to hear you and the baby are doing well--in spite of the nosebleed problem. Hopefully, the cauterization will take care of that.

Whew! Sounds like a lot to get done on the house before the 12th of January. Here's hoping....

So do you have names picked out the baby?

I bet those floors are going to be beautiful! Not like you have anything else to do, but are you taking pics of your house remodel?

Put you feet up (as in higher than your heart!) for AT LEAST TWO HOURS EVERY AFTERNOON!

I'm in yell.com or I can email you the number, so shout if you need anything or just want a natter.

I stripped wallpaper. Um... At 3:00 am! It put my borderline pre-eclamsia into the positive category and they shoved me in hospital for a week, and only let me out when Himself signed in blood that I wouldn't be allowed to lift anything more than a cup of tea until after the baby came. So take care.

Howdy!

Mercy! I'm going along reading your good baby news and then get to the part about the plumbers and I'm just wondering - well, you do say "hospital" so maybe the plumbers aren't needed w/ that, huh? Good luck!

R/Sandy - a bit confused after the snow & all that...

seconded! your body needs the rest right now!

My mum's midwives with my younger sister were constantly on at her to slow down, though she didn't seem to have any problems or even warning signs of problems, it was 1981, when in the UK at that time it was normal to start maternity leave at 29 weeks, so I don't think they believed she could be so active and not have any problems. She was actually planning to hang wallpaper the day my sister was born and I presume she'd done the stripping first! She was 38 weeks and realised she had some signs of labour, so instead of hanging the wallpaper she got out her sewing machine and hemmed sheets instead!

I just accepted this story growing up then when I had my own children I came to the conclusion my mum must have been crazy! Out of 3 pregnancies I've only even made it past 38 weeks once and that was in the hospital! I can't imagine attempting to do anything like wallpapering after about

28 weeks!

Look after youself Jo and enjoy the last few weeks of being pregnant and childfree!

Cheers Anne
